OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Broadband Governing Board has elected Dr. Jim Meek to serve as its chair and Amanda Mullins as its vice chair. The board selected Meek and Mullins by unanimous votes at its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 10.
The pair will lead the nine-member board as it oversees expansion of reliable and affordable high-speed internet service throughout the state.
Meek, of Okmulgee, is an appointee of House Speaker Charles McCall. He is treasurer and a director with the Oklahoma Farm Bureau.
"I strongly believe in the mission of delivering both quality and affordable broadband internet to all Oklahomans. We have a board and office in place dedicated to meeting this goal,” Meek said. “I look forward to seeing the economic impact completed projects will have on communities and individuals across Oklahoma.”
Mullins, of Chickasha, is an appointee of Governor Kevin Stitt. She is an attorney in private practice.
"It is an honor and privilege to serve the board and the public during this exciting time of broadband expansion in unserved and underserved Oklahoma communities,” Mullins said. “The expansion of broadband in Oklahoma will provide our citizens new access and opportunities that are vital to our state’s future.”
Created by legislation enacted in 2022, the board is responsible for providing oversight of the Oklahoma Broadband Office, hiring its executive director, and approving and overseeing the award of some $1.3 billion in federal grant funds to internet service providers to build out high-speed internet infrastructure across the state.
The board is composed of the Lt. Governor, State Treasurer, three appointees by the Governor, two by the Senate President Pro Tempore, and two by the Speaker of the House.
