 The Oklahoma Office of the Attorney General, Heathy Minds Policy Initiative, and current Opioid Abatement Grantees met earlier this month in Oklahoma City to connect, discuss, and learn from one another. Topics explored included an overview of the Opioid Abatement grant program, grant reporting and compliance, the state of the opioid crisis in Oklahoma, and implementation support for grantees.

Higher Education Opioid Abatement Grants Open

Grant Application Opens: November 1, 2025
Grant Application Closes: December 31, 2025
Who is eligible to apply for this grant round?
The board of regents or board of trustees of a state educational institution which is a member of The Oklahoma State System of Higher Education will be considered an eligible political subdivision under the Political Subdivisions Opioid Abatement Grants Act. Click here for a list of eligible institutions.
How to apply?
Applications will be accepted through an online portal found on the Oklahoma Opioid Abatement Grant website.

Quarterly Reporting Forms Due – January 31, 2026 |
Q4 (October 1 - December 31) Quarterly Reporting Forms and supporting documentation will be due on January 31, 2026.
2024 Grant Awards – Continue to submit the excel Quarterly Reporting Form via email to Jill Nichols, Jill.Nichols@oag.ok.gov.
2025 Grant Awards – The Quarterly Reporting Form will be completed in the OGX grant portal system. Watch for announcements on upcoming Office hours for technical support on the new reporting tool.

Creek County received an Opioid Abatement Grant award in 2024 to implement a comprehensive Opioid Abatement strategy encompassing both treatment and recovery services, and community-based prevention. At the beginning of 2025, Creek County successfully launched their jail-based GED education services. Over the summer Creek County Sheriff, Bret Bowling, held a special graduation ceremony for the first inmate to earn a GED through the inmate assistance program at the Creek County Justice Center. Title 74, sections 30.3 through 30.8 create the Political Subdivisions Opioid Abatement Grants Act. The Act’s purpose is to promote and protect the health of Oklahomans by using monetary grants to abate the opioid crisis in a comprehensive manner that includes cooperation and collaboration with political subdivisions.
Grants will fund treatment and recovery programs, assistance with co-occurring disorders and mental health issues, opioid abuse education and prevention, proper prescription efforts, and strategies to decrease the supply of narcotics across the state. Grants are rigorously reviewed and approved by the Oklahoma Opioid Abatement Board comprising of the Attorney General and appointees of the Governor, Speaker of the House, Senate President Pro Tempore, State Treasurer, State Superintendent for Public Instruction, and State Auditor and Inspector.
