2024 Total Solar Eclipse
On Monday, April 8, 2024, the City of Vermilion will be in the path of totality. The partial eclipse will begin at 1:57pm, and totality will happen at 3:12:45pm to 3:16:45pm, with the partial eclipse ending at 4:29:45pm.
Understanding the path (band) vs. the center line.
- The band of totality is 124 miles wide.
- The City of Vermilion is in the band of totality.
- Edges of the band will experience a different view and lesser duration.
- Areas on the centerline will experience the longest duration of the event.
- Some areas in Lorain County are on the centerline of totality.

City Precautions:
- City Parks will remain open for normal park hours. NO OVERNIGHT PARKING.
- The City Parks Department will not be allowing park or pavilion rentals for gatherings from April 6th through April 8th. Pavilions will be open to the public on a first come basis.

Public parking must be in designated parking spaces only. Parking rules will be enforced. No parking on grass or other areas not designated for parking. Do not park on private property you do not own. Codified Ordinance Chapter 452 Parking
- City of Vermilion First Responders will be stationed throughout the city for prompt response.
- Vermilion Fire Department personnel will be stationed 24/7 through the eclipse weekend.

While the Eclipse will occur on Monday, April 8th, it is likely that many visitors will come in over the weekend and stay in the area. This could cause any/all of the following:
- Difficulty accessing food, gas, and supplies due to traffic issues.
- Increased traffic or jammed roadways.
- Increased wait times for services such as hospitals, restaurants and gas stations.
- Possible loss of cell phone signal due to system overload.
Residents can prepare prior to the event by using the following tips:
- Stock up on food and drinks prior to the event.
- Avoid scheduling appointments on Monday, April 8th (Doctor, etc.).
- Gas up vehicles before the weekend (April 6/7).
- Avoid travel over the weekend.
Eclipse viewing tips:
- Staying close to home may be best.
- If you travel, make sure to have plenty of gas.
- Make sure to have eclipse glasses which are ISO 12312-2 certified and made in the USA.

Pavilion Rentals
Pavilion Rentals are a little different this year. There is a small fee to rent the large pavilion and forms and payments are submitted online.
If you need a pavilion for an adult group and do not need a large playground or access to the lake, consider West Breeze Park. It is often forgotten about and it's like having a gathering in your own backyard. It is very private, away from traffic and if you have very little children, adults can be with them at the small playground and still be able to visit with party guests. It's ideal for a graduation party or reunion. Large green area to setup corn hole or any of your favorite yard games, bring lawn chairs and the rental is free to Vermilion residents.

Brownhelm-Station Road
Brownhelm Township has received funding from the Ohio Public Works Commission for Phase II of the Brownhelm-Station Road Reconstruction Project. This project consists of a full-depth pavement recycling and newly paved asphalt surface for Brownhelm-Station Road from Sunnyside Road east for 1535’ where last year’s paving project terminated. State money for this project will not be available until July 2024, so they will try to have the project completed this fall.
Spring Sports Registration
Baseball and softball registration begins in March with a mid-April deadline. Registration is online and emails will go out through the Recreation Department. Make sure to create a parent account at www.cityofvermilionohio.gov/recreation

Are You Receiving The Cable Service You Should?
There was a time when it was known as a fuzzy screen. Then it became colored bars across the television. Now it is a blue screen with the dreaded "No Signal" display.
The Department of Commerce regulates Ohio's Cable Television. The Video Service Authorization Program administers the cable law on behalf of the Director of Commerce. The Program offers local governments and consumers resources and information about the standards as well as now giving you a way to reach out with questions, concerns, and comments if you the consumer are not receiving clarity or resolution from a cable tv service provider.
They have created a Cable TV Consumer Hotline. It can help with complaints such as who owns down or unburied cable lines, billing disputes, poor picture quality, equipment malfunctions, cancelled or missed service appointments and many other cable tv related concerns.
The Program does not have authority to regulate the rates offered nor do they regulate satellite companies, internet service, or streaming services.
