The Interim Resident Educator license will be available to those candidates who have successfully completed an educator preparation program approved under section 3333.048 of the Ohio Revised Code and passed the state required Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE) professional knowledge exam or the edTPA but have not yet passed the required content area exam and Foundations of Reading exam (if required for the requested licensure area). Note the minimum exam score requirements for eligibility for the Interim Resident Educator license below:

• Minimum of 206 on the Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE) content assessment(s) required for the requested subject area
• Minimum of 206 on the OAE Foundations of Reading 190 (if required)
• Minimum of Intermediate Mid on the ACTFL OPI and WPT assessments for world languages

The Interim Resident Educator license will be renewable two times at the request of the employing superintendent or chief administrator of the school, district, or educational service center. Candidates must upload their final holistic annual evaluation through their CORE Dashboard with their renewal application.

After three years of successful teaching under the Interim Resident Educator license, the candidate may transition to a professional teaching license if they have fulfilled all of the following requirements:

• Participated in the employing school, school district, or educational service center’s Resident Educator Program;
• Passed the Resident Educator Summative Assessment; AND
• Received a wholistic rating of skilled or accomplished in two out of three years on the teacher evaluation conducted by the school or school district in accordance with sections 3319.111 and/or 3319.112 of the Revised Code. The Interim Resident Educator license holder who has not received a full formal evaluation each of the years in which he or she holds the license will not be eligible to advance to a five-year professional license.
