OPSB authorizes construction of Licking County behind-the-meter power plant
COLUMBUS, OHIO (July 24, 2025) – The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) approved the construction of a 120 megawatt (MW) natural gas fired electric generation facility in the city of New Albany and Licking County. The PowerConneX 1 Generation Project will operate “behind-the-meter” to serve the electric load of an adjacent data center and will not be physically connected to the electric power grid.
PowerConneX New Albany, LLC, will construct and operate the generation facility, and its affiliate EdgeConneX, Inc., will consume the electric power generated. Within the New Albany Business Park, EdgeConneX owns a 49-acre industrial property campus where it is constructing a data center on which the 8-acre generation facility will be co-located. Natural gas for the generation facility will be supplied by a local gas distribution company, National Gas and Oil Cooperative.
More information regarding the PowerConneX 1 Generation Project, including maps of the project area, is available in the record for case number 25-0090-EL-BLN. The OPSB recently created an online mapping tool that illustrates the location of the PowerConneX project, as well as other approved and pending natural gas fired generation projects in Ohio.
