Summer Crisis Program helps keep Ohioans cool

Summer Crisis Program

The Summer Crisis Program can help qualifying Ohioans keep their homes cool when it's hot outside.

From now until September 30, program participants can receive a payment to assist with electric utility bills, central AC repairs, and AC unit and/or fan purchases.

News Bureau: Implementing HB 15

On May 15, 2025, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 15 into law to amend the competitive retail electric service law, modify taxation of certain public utility property, and repeal parts of HB 6 of the 133rd General Assembly. 

HB 15 becomes effective on Aug. 14, 2025.

PUCO awards hazardous materials training grants

The PUCO announced that it has awarded $800,000 in hazardous materials training grants to 30 applicants.

Through the annual hazardous materials training grant program, educational institutions and local governments across Ohio are awarded grants for training emergency responders to best respond to incidents related to hazardous materials.

AEP Ohio

PUCO orders AEP Ohio to create data center specific tariff

The PUCO issued an order directing AEP Ohio to file new tariffs applying to data centers. The Commission adopted a settlement agreement reached by AEP Ohio, PUCO staff, Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC) and others.

PUCO authorizes AEP Ohio circuit upgrades 

The PUCO authorized AEP Ohio to implement a distribution automation circuit reconfiguration project throughout its service territory over the next seven years.

AEP Ohio will be required to update at least 300 circuits with automation equipment that can detect power outages and reroute power to minimize the number of people impacted by outages.

PUCO schedules public hearings

CenterPoint Energy Ohio - 24-508-EL-ATA

On July 29, PUCO staff will hold a public hearing regarding CenterPoint Energy Ohio's application to increase natural gas distribution rates and for approval of an alternative rate plan. Details available on the PUCO website.

AES Ohio - 24-1009-EL-AIR

On Aug. 7 and Aug. 14, PUCO staff will hold public hearings regarding AES Ohio's application to increase its electric distribution rates. Details available on the PUCO website.

Ohio Cumberland Gas Company - 24-862-GA-AIR

On Aug. 27, PUCO staff will hold a local public hearing regarding Ohio Cumberland Gas Company’s application to increase natural gas rates. Details available on the PUCO website.

OPSB schedules public hearings

Carnation Solar, LLC - 24-0881-EL-BGN

On Aug. 11, the OPSB will hold a local public hearing regarding Carnation Solar, LLC’s proposal to construct a 142 megawatt solar-powered electric generation facility in Fairfield County. Read more about the Carnation Solar public hearing.

On Aug. 28, the OPSB will hold a local public hearing regarding Will-Power OH, LLC’s proposal to construct a 200 megawatt behind-the-meter natural gas-fired electric generation facility in Licking County. Read more about the Will-Power OH public hearing.

OPSB authorizes construction of behind-the-meter power plant 

The OPSB authorized the construction of a behind-the-meter power plant in the city of New Albany and Licking County.

PowerConneX New Albany will construct and operate the generation facility, and its affiliate EdgeConneX, will consume the electric power generated.

PJM energy demand reached the third- and fourth-highest all-time peak loads during June's extreme heat. PJM 2026/2027 Base Residual Auction results

PJM Interconnection announced the results of its 2026/2027 Base Residual Auction (BRA), which secured 134,311 MW of unforced capacity generation (UCAP) and demand response to meet projected electricity needs for more than 67 million people across 13 states and the District of Columbia. Attend outreach events: Each year, the PUCO exhibits and presents at more than 100 fairs, festivals and events across the state. You can request a speaker to present on utility-related topics directly from our website!
