Energy efficiency forums kick off Sept. 8
The PUCO is hosting a series of energy efficiency workshops on whether cost-effective energy efficiency programs are an appropriate tool to manage electric generation costs, and how those fit into Ohio’s competitive marketplaces.
The first workshop focuses on the electric industry and takes place on September 8th.

PUCO awards hazardous material training grants
The PUCO has awarded $800,000 in hazardous materials training grants to 12 applicants. These grants are given to educational institutions and local governments to train organizations on how best to respond to hazardous materials incidents.

Upgrade local rail crossings with funding from the PUCO
Local governments can apply for state funding from the PUCO to improve railroad crossings in their communities.
Two state-funded programs can provide funds for safety devices, improved signage, vegetation cut-back and more.

NARUC announces key leadership appointment from the PUCO
The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners has named PUCO Commissioner Beth Trombold as the new co-vice chair of the Committee on Electricity.
“The NARUC Electricity Committee provides its members with meaningful education on timely issues affecting the electricity sector. I look forward to continuing my involvement with the Committee in this new leadership role to help inform regulators on these ever-changing and critical topics," said Commissioner Trombold.

OPSB approves electric transmission lines in Erie, Huron and Franklin counties
The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) has approved applications filed by Firelands Wind, LLC and AEP Ohio to construct new electric transmission lines in Erie and Huron counties and Franklin County, respectively.

The best protection against COVID-19 is vaccinations
The Ohio Department of Health is reporting a large increase in COVID-19 cases over the last month across the state, including among students who are heading back to school.

“As students statewide continue to return to their classrooms, this high figure should be yet another indicator to parents and families that the best protection from COVID-19 is for those 12 and older to choose to be vaccinated, and for those who aren’t vaccinated to wear masks," said Ohio Department of Health Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, MBA.
