As the end of 2019 approaches, it's a great time to reflect on the accomplishments the PUCO has achieved this year.

In the course of following our commitment to protect and educate Ohioans, we:

These examples are just the tip of the iceberg - staff at the PUCO worked diligently every day in hearing rooms, alongside roadways and rail crossings, in towns across Ohio and in our Consumer Call Center. 

We appreciate all of the work that goes on across the agency - we are proud of an impressive 2019!


Inspections

2019 PUCO Highlights

  • 16,000 motor carrier registrations
  • 2,700 roadside inspections
  • $800,000 awarded in hazardous materials training grants
  • 60,000 contacts via the PUCO Call Center
  • $1.3 million saved through 13,000 informal investigations
Outreach events
  • Ohio Power Siting Board reviewed applications for projects totaling over $800 million in new generation and $580 million in transmission applications
  • Introduction of instant rate change alerts that reach over 6,400 consumers via text and email
  • PUCO issued 623 entries, 325 findings and orders, 80 opinions and orders and 279 Commission entries
  • Held more than 250 consumer outreach events, which included public hearings, speaking requests and exhibits, and reached an estimated 20,000 Ohioans
  • Updated business processes, including online invoicing of over $45 million in civil forfeitures 

In 2020, we will continue on our mission to ensure that all residential and business consumers have access to adequate, safe and reliable utility services at fair prices. We look forward optimistically to the next year and to the opportunity to serve Ohio's citizens.
