COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), alongside local and state safety partners, will be conducting a focused operation on Interstate 270 to stop reckless driving and reduce fatal crashes from Monday, August 17 through Saturday, August 22.
During the six-day enforcement, the Patrol will be working in collaboration with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Dublin Police Department, Gahanna Police Department, Hilliard Police Department, Columbus Division of Police and Ohio Department of Transportation. The OSHP Aviation Unit will also participate in the enforcement.
"Protecting Ohio families and saving lives is our highest priority," said Captain Eric A. Caudill, Columbus District Commander. "Reckless driving creates permanent and devastating consequences, and this collaborative enforcement makes it clear that dangerous behavior behind the wheel has no place on our roads."
This collaborative multi-agency operation comes less than a month after a similar enforcement focusing on keeping drivers traveling on I-270 safe. During that operation, the Patrol issued 676 speed citations, 16 of which were over 100 miles-per-hour. Collectively, partnering agencies cited 84 drivers for safety belt violations, issued 121 distracted driving citations and arrested two drivers for impaired driving.
To promote roadway safety across the state, drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, buckle up and never drive distracted or impaired. If you see reckless driving, please call #677 to be connected to your nearest Patrol post.
