Patrol seeks public assistance in locating vehicle and driver involved in serious injury hit-skip incident

(WEST JEFFERSON) - The West Jefferson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in identifying a hit-skip driver who caused a serious injury incident on Thursday. 

The incident occurred at Thursday, April 9 at approximately 11:34 a.m. on Interstate 70 near mile post 84 in Madison County.

Peter Baumann, 29, Hilliard, was operating a 2003 blue Honda Accord on Interstate 70 westbound when a maroon 2019 or 2020 Toyota Rav-4 forced him into the path of a commercial motor vehicle. Mr. Baumann passed the Toyota Rav-4, pulled off the right side of the roadway and exited his vehicle. The Toyota struck Mr. Baumann as it was fleeing the scene. Mr. Baumann was transported to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries.

The vehicle in question is a 2019 or 2020 model, Toyota Rav-4, maroon in color. The vehicle may have damage to the front bumper, hood, grill or windshield. The photo below is was taken from the commercial motor vehicle’s dash-mounted camera and shows the Toyota Rav-4 in question. The Patrol is requesting anyone with information on the identity of vehicle or the driver contact the West Jefferson Highway Patrol Post at (614) 879-7626.
