STABLE Accounts are specialized savings and investment accounts for people living with disabilities. Through these accounts, individuals can save and invest their money without losing eligibility for certain means-tested benefits. Earnings on a STABLE account grow tax-free and are not subject to federal income tax, so long as they are spent on Qualified Disability Expenses. Such expenses may include education, housing, transportation, healthcare, assistive technology, basic living expenses, and other items.
In 2024, accountholders can now save up to $18,000 per year, and if they are employed, they can save an additional $14,580. STABLE accounts continue to be a life-changing tool for individuals and families that allows them to work and live more independently.
