Federal Grants Available to Combat Violence Against Women, and Fund Crime Prevention Strategies

The Office of Criminal Justice Services issued two requests for proposals for federal grants intended to combat violence against women and prevent crime overall. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) programs provide funding to victim services providers as well as law enforcement, prosecution, court, and correction agencies in Ohio.

The VAWA program assists local governments and non-profit community-based organizations in delivering justice and improving assistance for victims of domestic abuse, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

The JAG program assists local and state agencies in preventing and managing crime based on the needs and conditions of the jurisdiction. Projects assist drug task forces, school resource officers, drug, veteran, and mental health courts, correction projects, and justice technology initiatives. The deadline to respond is 5 p.m., July 31, 2024.

Rural Grant Applicants’ Toolkit for Competitive Federal Transportation Funding

The U.S. Department of Transportation offers the Rural Grant Applicant Toolkit for Competitive Federal Transportation Funding to assist potential applicants seeking funding for rural transportation projects. Eight sections cover the basics of federal funding, the grant application process, what makes an effective grant application, and which federal agencies are running grant programs that connect with rural transportation projects. The toolkit is designed for all levels of grants applicants, and many of the resources provided are useful for other types of transportation projects.

US Department of Transportation Offers Webinar

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is hosting a two-part webinar series to help communities use data to effectively tell their story in planning, developing, and applying for DOT grants.

Part 1 of the webinar series on July 22, will focus on how to identify and describe a project and its goals, identify infrastructure users, and determine the project’s impact area. Participants will receive step-by-step instructions, and presenters will use examples to demonstrate each idea in the planning, project development, and/or grant application process. The webinar will end with a brief Q&A session.

Part 2 of the webinar series on August 15, will introduce participants to DOT’s Equitable Transportation Community (ETC) Explorer tool and provide detailed instructions on how to use the tool to map a project area, identify how a community is experiencing disadvantage, and access project benefits. This information will build on the content presented during Part 1 of the webinar series. Participants are encouraged to register for both or review the Part 1 materials before attending Part 2.  Register for the webinar series here.
