OhioCares Executive Committee Holds Quarterly Meeting
OhioMHAS Director Lori Criss joined colleagues Maj. Gen. John Harris Jr., Ohio's adjutant general, and Ohio Department of Veteran Services (ODVS) Director Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Deborah Ashenhurst last week for the quarterly Executive Committee meeting for OhioCares. The OhioCares initiative connects military personnel, veterans, and their family members to behavioral health services throughout the state.
Led by staff from the Ohio National Guard, ODVS and OhioMHAS, OhioCares creates a single point of collaboration between state, federal, and local government agencies, non-profits, and community organizations to build a more "veteran-informed" community behavioral health system in Ohio.
Executive leadership heard updates on a variety of topics, including Star Behavioral Health Providers, Purple Star designated schools as well as local collaborative projects in the Erie County and Clark, Greene, Madison County board areas.
SFY 2024 RFP: Regional First Responders Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Peer Assistance Team Development Training
OhioMHAS is pleased to announce the release a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the purpose of seeking proposals from qualified contractors to provide five (5) in-person, 16-hour regional group critical incident stress management (CISM) team development trainings across five regions to multi-disciplinary teams. The awardee must be a current or former first responder, a certified instructor in Crisis Incident Stress Management, possess the necessary instruction credentials to teach Group Crisis Intervention with or without Individual Intervention, have experience with the development and deployment of CISM teams to include law enforcement, fire, EMS, and dispatchers, incorporate scenario-based role playing on responses to major critical incidents and support first responder mental wellness. Proposals must be submitted via the OhioBuys website by 2:00 p.m. on Aug. 9.

OhioPRO Announces 2023 Peer Recovery Summit Agenda — Aug. 16-17
Ohio Peer Recovery Organizations (OhioPRO) is excited to announce the agenda for the 2023 Peer Recovery Summit: Ohioans Thriving in Recovery, scheduled for Aug. 16-17 at the Marriott Columbus OSU, 3100 Olentangy River Road, Columbus. The summit will feature dynamic speakers and presenters from across Ohio and the country who will cover a variety of topics related to peer support and recovery.
There is still time to register for the 2023 Peer Recovery Summit, which is supported by OhioMHAS. Registration is limited to 400 attendees with a registration fee of $50 per attendee. This summit will provide certified peer attendees up to 9 hours of continuing education credits that can be used toward their certification renewal.

34th Annual UMADAOP Statewide Conference — Oct. 4-6
The Urban Minority Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Outreach Program (UMADAOP) of Dayton will host the 34th Annual UMADAOP Statewide Conference on Oct. 4-6 at the Marriott University of Dayton. This year's theme, "Upendo" (Love): Restoring Hope, Rebuilding Lives, and Strengthening Value in Our Communities, highlights the restorative power of hope and the value invested in that which we love.
Conference sessions continue the UMADAOP Federation's long tradition of working to ensure that communities of color benefit from culturally specific prevention, treatment, recovery, and mental health services. Keynote presenters include: Charde' Hollins, LCSW, Relevant Connects; Dr.Haner Hernandez, New England School of Addiction Studies; and, Angela Dawson, Executive Director, Ohio Commission on Minority Health.
