Governor DeWine Supports Local Drug Task Forces with $2.4M in RecoveryOhio Funding

On Wednesday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that nearly three dozen local drug task forces in Ohio are receiving state support for their work to disrupt the drug trade and promote substance use awareness, prevention, and recovery. More than $2.4 million in grants from Governor DeWine’s RecoveryOhio Law Enforcement Fund will be awarded among 32 existing drug task forces to help them identify high-level drug traffickers, dismantle large drug trafficking organizations, interrupt the flow of money and drugs from international cartels, and prevent the sale of illegal narcotics to those suffering from substance use disorder.

“Illegal drugs harm too many Ohioans every year, and these grant funds will ensure that the state’s drug task forces can continue their daily battle to push back against this scourge," said Governor DeWine.

Grant funding will also be used to support the mission of Governor DeWine's RecoveryOhio initiative, which aims to increase substance use and mental health awareness, implement age-appropriate prevention education in schools, connect those who need help with treatment, and promote recovery. Governor DeWine worked in partnership with the Ohio General Assembly to secure funding for these grants in the operating budget. The program is administered by the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services.

UPDATE: Great Minds Fellowship Information Session for Ohio's Community Behavioral Health Providers — July 25

The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) and the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) will host a virtual information session on Tuesday, July 25 at 1:00 p.m. to discuss the rollout and program details for the State of Ohio’s Great Minds Fellowship.

This Teams-based meeting led by OhioMHAS Director Lori Criss and ODHE Chancellor Randy Gardner is intended for Ohio's community behavioral health providers. Questions? Please email Zandia.Lawson@mha.ohio.gov.

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month Toolkit

National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each July to bring awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental illness in the U.S. Racial and ethnic minorities often suffer from poor mental health outcomes due to multiple factors, including lack of access to quality mental health care services, cultural stigma surrounding mental health care, discrimination, and overall lack of awareness about mental health. Use The HHS Office of Minority Health’s (OMH) templates to create your own graphics, virtual backgrounds, and presentations to spread awareness about National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month with your networks.

ODM Releases June OhioRISE Launch Report

The Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) distributes monthly launch reports that contain details related to OhioRISE (Resilience through Integrated Systems and Excellence), a specialized managed care program offered to children and youth with complex behavioral health needs. The program launched July 1, 2022, as ODM’s first Next Generation initiative. As of July 13, 2023, 23,095 children and youth are enrolled.

OCAM Network Announces HR & Fiscal Management Courses

The Ohio Coaching and Mentoring (OCAM) Network is offering a series of HR and Fiscal Management courses, beginning Aug. 1. Topics covered in these sessions include: supervision; program management; business plan; conflict management; grant writing; evaluation; sustainability plan; and grant management. These sessions help meet the CEU requirements needed to obtain OCPC credentials.

Harm Reduction Efforts in Hamilton County — Aug. 24

The Hamilton County Public Health in the Harm Reduction Division will present An Open Discussion and Q&A Session About Harm Reduction Efforts in Hamilton County webinar on Aug. 24 from 1:00-200 p.m. During this webinar, participants will learn how to describe the need for innovative harm and risk reduction efforts in large townships and communities and ask questions about all the harm reduction services HCPH provides in an open forum setting.
