Ohio Medicaid Announces MyCare Ohio Plans Chosen to Serve Ohioans in Next Generation Program
Four managed care plans selected to serve Ohioans eligible for Medicaid and Medicare.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Today, the Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) announced the four MyCare Ohio plans selected to serve Ohioans who are eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare in Ohio’s Next Generation MyCare program. The program aligns with Governor Mike DeWine’s goal of ensuring vulnerable populations get the healthcare coverage they need-from well checks and emergency room visits to home and community services and assisted living - without facing financial burden. The transition to the new program and statewide coverage begins in January 2026.
“Coordinating and integrating the care for adults and seniors across both Medicaid and Medicare is the key. Navigating these two health care programs is very complicated,” ODM Director Maureen Corcoran said. “These plans were selected after more than a year of stakeholder engagement efforts that gathered feedback from members, family caregivers and other stakeholders across the state. This helped us understand their experiences with healthcare and the associated life choices, with a focus on how to improve individual health outcomes and population wellness.”
The MyCare Ohio program is designed to eliminate the challenges individuals face navigating between two separate and complex health coverage programs. Next Generation MyCare plans will abide by the newly improved contract that includes changes to important topics identified through ODM’s engagement with stakeholders. Improvements include a focus on behavioral health services, additional transportation availability, greater opportunity for self-direction, and long-term care. The four managed care organizations selected as the Next Generation MyCare plans are:
- Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield
- Buckeye Health Plan
- CareSource
- Molina HealthCare of Ohio
The Next Generation MyCare program is modeled after ODM’s Next Generation managed care program, which focuses on the individual rather than the business of managed care. In addition to the goal to focus on the individual, the Next Generation MyCare program aims to improve member and provider experience by:
- Improving individual and population wellness and health outcomes
- Creating a personalized care experience
- Supporting providers in continuously improving care
- Improving care for individuals with complex needs to promote independence in the community
- Increasing program transparency and accountability
MyCare Ohio members will not have any change at this time. Current MyCare Ohio providers will continue to serve MyCare Ohio members as they do today until the transition to the Next Generation MyCare plans in January 2026. At that time, the selected plans will be responsible for supporting Ohioans who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid healthcare coverage in the 29 counties where MyCare Ohio is currently available. Statewide expansion of the program will follow as quickly as possible.
After the Request for Applications closed in August, ODM assessed applicants on demonstrated approach, capability, and experience being responsible for the care of individuals who receive both Medicare, Medicaid, and the full range of services available through both programs, expertise providing Medicaid’s long-term services and supports, and knowledge of working with local community partners in serving Ohioans.
“One of our main goals through the MyCare Ohio program is to give more Ohioans the option to focus on their health and the health of those they love,” Director Corcoran said. “More than 250,000 people in our state are eligible for this care, and thanks to Governor Mike DeWine and the General Assembly, we will be able to make this available to them and their families.”
Ohio Medicaid launched the current MyCare Ohio demonstration in 2014 and has served nearly 150,000 people in select regions of the state. Today it is the nation’s second largest dual eligible demonstration initiative.
