I am greatly honored to represent Ohio's 80th House District, covering Miami and southern Darke counties. If you are ever in Columbus, please feel free to call and schedule a visit at The People's Office of District 80.
Honored to Serve District 80
As I near the end of my first term as State Representative for District 80, reflecting on all that has been accomplished from 2025 to 2026, I am amazed and thankful. I'm often asked how I like being a State Representative, and my reply is always this: There are challenging things, but the thing I like most of all is the wonderful people I meet and interact with across Miami and Darke County. Literally, my office has received hundreds of phone calls and emails and has conducted hundreds of meetings with those seeking what is best for our communities, economy, and safety. I am truly honored to serve!
House Bill 441 - Legislation Updating Statute of Limitations Regarding Defamation Claims
I voted in support of House Bill 441 - legislation that clarifies when the statute of limitations begins for defamation claims.
The legislation follows the Ohio Supreme Court’s 2025 decision in Weidman v. Hildebrant, which held that the statute of limitations for defamation claims begins when the allegedly defamatory statement is discovered by the plaintiff rather than when it is published. The ruling represented a significant departure from more than a century of Ohio precedent, under which the one-year filing period began at the time of publication, regardless of when the statement was discovered.
House Bill 441 requires an action for libel or slander to be commenced within four years after the defamatory statement is made, instead of one year, while also restoring certainty and consistency to Ohio law by clearly establishing when the statute of limitations begins to run for libel and slander claims.
House Bill 441 now awaits further consideration from the Ohio Senate.
Celebrating a Local Landmark at K’s Hamburgers
It is a delight to represent the people and organizations that make Miami and Darke County great. K’s Hamburgers has served up the best food around for more than 90 years right here on Main Street in Troy. Listening to the voices of these everyday, grassroots Ohioans gives me a clear idea of what is most important and needed in the state legislature. I aim to reduce regulations on businesses, get big government out of the way, and keep taxes low so that entrepreneurs and business owners have all the room to thrive that they need. When they thrive, our whole community thrives. It is an honor to serve!
Enjoying Arcanum’s Annual Bean Supper and Halloween Festivities
Thank you to the Arcanum Area Business Association for hosting the annual Bean Supper and Halloween festivities, which were a huge hit! There’s no place in the world like Arcanum, and there are no community supporters greater than these folks. The food was great, and the fellowship was even greater.
Supporting Baby Vivian’s Law
Some of our most important legislation comes directly from constituents. Baby Vivian’s Law originated due to a horrific crime committed against a toddler in Piqua, Ohio. The family and friends who loved her are working tirelessly to see that this tragedy is seen for what it is – Ohio laws must punish criminals and protect the innocent. Vivian’s Law seeks to do this. When I first took office, I met with supporters of this law and then spoke with judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers in order to best see how to address this issue. House Bill 635 passed out of the House Children and Human Services Committee and awaits further consideration.
