Rep. Bird Champions Resolution Aimed at Strengthening Our Elections by Placing Voter ID Requirements in the State Constitution
Rep. Bird championed a joint resolution to strengthen Ohio’s election process by putting a constitutional amendment before voters this fall to enshrine Ohio's Voter ID laws in the State's Constitution.
Senate Joint Resolution 10 would require voters to provide photo identification in order to vote in Ohio’s elections. The resolution specifies what constitutes a valid identification – specifically requiring individuals voting in person to provide a valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification.
Currently, Ohio law requires citizens to provide voter identification before voting, as approved through the Legislature in December 2022. Current law also allows individuals to obtain initial and renewed state ID cards at no cost for Ohioans 17 and older.
By codifying these requirements in Ohio’s Constitution, the joint resolution will ensure the integrity and long-term security of our elections.
With the adoption of the resolution, the question will appear on the November ballot.
River Community Grand Openings
In June 2022, the Ohio House and Senate passed House Bill 377, which allocated $500 million for transformative projects across Appalachian Ohio.
Rep. Bird attended the ribbon-cutting ceremonies in Higgansport and New Richmond this week, celebrating the newly completed river communities!
