Greetings, Friends!
This week has been full of meetings and in-district events for Representative Click. Let’s take a closer look at what’s been happening in the Heart of it All!
Earlier this year, State Representative Gary Click voted in support of S.J.R. 10, which gives voters like you the chance to decide whether the Ohio Constitution should require photo ID to vote. Rep. Click has heard from many constituents who believe this is essential to protecting the integrity of our elections, and he couldn't agree more. That is why he felt that it was important to give you the opportunity to act decisively on this issue.
The Center for Effective Lawmaking recently named Representative Click the 9th most effective lawmaker in the State of Ohio in the 135th General Assembly. Through the previous General Assembly, Representative Click had 16 pieces of legislation passed into law, many of them being bipartisan efforts. Representative Click is continually committed to fighting for the values that represent Seneca and Sandusky Counties. This is the result of his common-sense conservative values. While a strong conservative, he is unafraid to work with colleagues across the aisle when it makes sense for Ohio, especially for our district.
Recently, Representative Click and Representative Darnell Brewer introduced House Bill 1018, which will designate September 25th as Dolly Parton Imagination Library Reading Day. This legislation seeks to encourage reading in adolescence to ensure that children reach their fullest potential.
Representative Click shares the mounting concerns that he has heard from within the district regarding Flock and similar surveillance-type cameras. He believes that there should at least be a pause to allow time for debate and deliberation before Ohio goes further down this road. That's why he introduced the “1984 No More Act” - House Bill 1011. This legislation will create a 12-month moratorium on the use of Flock Cameras.
Representative Click said, “While recognizing the clear advantages that Flock Cameras provide for law enforcement, I have grave concerns about establishing an infrastructure for a surveillance system capable of stripping the right to privacy from everyday citizens. I am closely monitoring other pending legislation that will either regulate or completely ban the use of Flock Cameras. However, in the meantime, I feel that it is essential to place a strategic pause on their use until we can hear more from the public and implement more comprehensive legislation.”
This legislation seeks to put a hold on the influx of Flock Cameras coming into Ohio and give the General Assembly the ability to thoughtfully and carefully craft policy to protect the citizens of Ohio from a surveillance state.
