SIGNED: House Bill 210
I'm pleased to share that Governor DeWine signed House Bill 210, legislation to protect Ohioans from catalytic converter theft, into Ohio law.
The bill, championed by Rep. Phil Plummer and me, intends to better protect consumers from catalytic converter theft, equip law enforcement, and create more transparent guidelines for businesses. Catalytic converters take about three minutes to steal and appeal to those who need cash fast, as they contain precious metals.
Key provisions of House Bill 210 are as follows:
- Requires scrap metal dealers and other buyers of used catalytic converters to comply with recordkeeping, reporting, and transaction requirements and establishes penalties for noncompliance.
- Expands the authority and responsibilities of the Director of Public Safety related to the oversight and investigation of scrap metal dealers and other buyers of used catalytic converters.
- Prohibits motor vehicle salvage dealers from purchasing or accepting catalytic converters.
- Creates new criminal offenses for the theft of and receipt of stolen catalytic converters.
Catalytic converter theft has been a scourge on our communities, impacting thousands of working families across Ohio. HB 210 will go a long way toward combating these thefts by requiring proof of ownership and making it harder for thieves to profit from stolen converters.
House Bill 210 is now enrolled.
SIGNED: Senate Bill 52
Governor DeWine also signed Senate Bill 52, omnibus legislation that designates multiple memorial roads across the state and creates specialty license plates.
This provision designates a portion of State Route 241 in Green, Ohio, in honor of Captain McClimans, a U.S. Army veteran who was killed on duty in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2011.
Captain Joshua McClimans exemplified selfless service throughout his life, caring for others as a nurse and serving his country with honor. This highway designation stands as a lasting tribute to his sacrifice and serves as a reminder of the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to our nation.
Captain McClimans was a registered nurse and played an integral role in providing life-saving measures while deployed in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
This bill is now enacted.
Property Tax Panel Discussion
I recently joined three of my colleagues from the House Ways and Means Committee to discuss property tax reform at the Ohio Society of CPAs event at the beautiful Cleveland Botanical Gardens.
The panel was broken down into three sections:
- The past, which focused on recommendations from the Joint Committee on Property Tax Review and Reform and the Governor’s Property Tax Workgroup.
- The present, which focused on the five enacted property tax bills from 2025, which delivered over $3 billion in property tax relief to Ohioans.
- The future, which focused on what’s next for Ohio property taxes and how the legislature can support.
Good Shepard United Methodist Church
I was honored to present a resolution to the Good Shepard Methodist Church on its centennial anniversary. My family and I have a very long history with Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. My mom Vera began attending when she was five years old in 1926. My parents were married in the church in 1949. I was baptized in1956 and married in 1979 at Good Shepherd. Most importantly, both my parents' ashes are interred at the church.
Once again, thank you to the Good Shepard Methodist Church for all you do for the community, and the role you have and continue to hold in my family.
Team Tressel Fitness Challenge
I was so pleased to lead a fitness challenge with Lt. Governor Tressel at Richardson Elementary School.
The Team Tressel Fitness Challenge is a statewide movement to teach and inspire Ohio's next generation of leaders. The challenge helps students build lifelong habits around fitness, healthy eating, and sleep, and lays the foundation for a brighter future by improving students' physical and mental health, all of which I fully support!
CitiCenter Downtown Akron Redevelopment Project
I recently participated in the Welty-Akron Citi Center Project Kickoff. This 10-story Art Deco landmark was originally constructed in 1931 as a YWCA, later converted into mixed-use office space, and has been owned by the City since 1993. The building will now take on a new chapter as a fully restored 116-unit residential community. The historic reuse project aligns closely with the Downtown Akron Partnership–led Vision and Redevelopment Plan, which aims to add 1,200 residential units and grow the downtown population to 5,000 by 2030. Increasing residential density in the core of downtown is essential to transforming Akron into a truly 24/7 neighborhood where life extends well beyond business hours. A robust residential base fosters consistent foot traffic throughout the day, benefiting retailers, restaurants, and service businesses.
I'm pleased to see this space have a new purpose and shine brightly within the community.
Fresh ‘n Crisp Farms
My colleague, Senator Roegner and I took a tour of Fresh ‘n Crisp farms. We met with their leadership team and they ran us through the operations side of the facility. Fresh 'n Crisp Farms is a premium brand based in Hudson, Ohio. They grow a variety of fresh and long-lasting greens to provide delicious, healthy, and sustainable lettuce.
Ben LeBay Track Champion
I had the honor of presenting Ben LeBay with a resolution recognizing his 1600M OHSAA track championship win. Ben is currently running varsity as a freshman at Ohio Northern University. Congratulations again, and I wish you continued success!
Akron Art Museum 1899 Building Ribbon Cutting
I also recently attended a ribbon-cutting event for the 1899 building as part of the Akron Art Museum. This was a result of a one-time strategic community investment in the budget. I'm proud to have helped secure this funding for projects like this.
Thank you for your continued trust and support as we work to strengthen our communities, support our students, and honor the values that have shaped our state and nation. If you ever need assistance with a state issue or have feedback on legislative matters, please reach out to my office.
