Rep. Bird Supports Effort to Bring U.S. Space Force Academy to Ohio
 Representative Bird recently signed a letter addressed to Governor DeWine, expressing strong support for Ohio to be named the future home of the U.S. Space Force Academy.
The letter, signed by Speaker Matt Huffman (R-Lima) and members of the House Republican Caucus, highlights Ohio’s rich history of aerospace pioneers such as Neil Armstrong and John Glenn, as well as the state’s longstanding leadership in innovation, robust network of military installations, and defense industry partnerships.
This letter follows an announcement from Senator Bernie Moreno earlier this week, calling on Ohio officials to join him in bringing the U.S. Space Force Academy to Dayton, Ohio – the birthplace of aviation. You can read the full release here.
Rep. Bird Applauds Federal Action Enforcing Drive-Only License for Illegal Aliens
Bird Championing similar effort in Ohio House
Rep. Bird applauded U.S. Senators Bernie Moreno and Jon Husted for their federal legislation, the Red Light Act, which would prohibit illegal aliens’ access to “drive-only” licenses. Rep. Bird has championed a similar effort in the Ohio Legislature, House Bill 722 – legislation that would prohibit a person without legal presence from driving in Ohio.
“After an Ohioan from Northwest Ohio was killed by an illegal alien who the state of California had issued a driver’s license, the state legislature should immediately consider my H.B. 722, which was introduced in March of 2026,” said Bird. “Driving in Ohio is a privilege reserved for citizens who speak and read English and can pass the BMV test. Ohio should never recognize a driver's license issued to an illegal alien.”
House Bill 722 aims to address nonresidents who are unlawfully present in the United States and shall not operate any motor vehicle upon any highway in this state, regardless of whether they are permitted to drive on highways in another state or hold a valid driver's license issued by that state.
House Bill 722 awaits further consideration in the House Public Safety Committee.
