Data Center Information And Local Collaboration
Many Ohioans are asking questions about the influx of data centers, as there are big concerns we all share related to our farmland, electricity and water use, non-disclosure agreements, and much more.
My office has made it a priority to respond quickly to constituent requests with helpful information and one key reminder – data centers are a local control, local government decision.
My office has been in direct communication with District 80’s 6 county commissioners, 60 township trustees, 21 city and village mayors and councils. Each has received my assurance of support in any way it is needed, as well as sample zoning ordinances on data centers passed by boards elsewhere.
I have informed local officials on the requirements being discussed in upcoming legislation, and I have welcomed them to inform me on the requirements they think are needed.
Hobart Institute of Welding Receives $475,000 Grant!
This is good for Troy, good for Ohio, good for America. Hobart Institute of Welding, the best welding school in the world, has a vision to grow, producing even more of the world’s best-trained welders.
I helped secure $475,000 through the Capital Budget for this worthy institution for the purpose of acquiring upgraded equipment, enabling them to provide a higher level of training to more students. This will provide more horsepower for a growing economy in Ohio and beyond. I am thrilled to collaborate with the Hobart Team to help make this happen.
House Bill 519 - Strengthening Ohio's Theft Laws
I voted in support of House Bill 519, legislation that aims to strengthen Ohio's theft laws.
House Bill 519 does the following:
- Specifies that possession or control of an electronic device or tool with the intent to commit a theft offense that involves a motor vehicle constitutes prima facie evidence of the criminal purpose required to commit the offense of possessing criminal tools.
- If the circumstances indicate that an electronic tool or device was involved in the offense of possessing criminal tools, it increases the penalty for possessing criminal tools to a fourth degree felony.
- Creates a repeat motor vehicle theft juvenile offender classification.
This bill awaits further consideration in the Senate.
Darke County Agriculture Leads The State
 One visit to Rodeheffer Farms will help anyone see why Darke County agriculture, along with all of western Ohio, is vital to our state’s economy. These family farms have some of the world’s most highly educated and technologically savvy farmers in America, farming 3,000 acres in grain. They also have a clear read on vital actions needed to ensure our farms and their families thrive in today’s challenging, global economy. We must never forget where our food comes from and that agriculture is Ohio’s number one industry.
An Aspiring Darke County Farmer
 Darke County’s Hunter Burns is showing his skills and finding his way into a rewarding love of producing healthy animals and food products thanks to the investments of his family and teachers. All of this is on display at the Ohio State Fair, showing the promise of tomorrow’s producers and the reason Darke County is Ohio’s leading farm county. Thanks to Hunter, I competed in the showmanship contest known as the Buckeye Baa-ttle featuring Ohio Legislators. My first-ever sheep show was a real hit!
