House Bill 523 - The Future Educators Support Act
Rep. Bird is a co-sponsor of House Bill 523, legislation also known as the “Future Educators Support Act.”
House Bill 523 works to provide financial support to Ohio’s student teachers, removing a significant barrier to entry to the field of teaching and responding to the state’s ongoing educator workforce shortage.
Under the bill, public schools are permitted – not required – to pay student teachers a stipend in an amount determined by the school. Additionally, a state college or university may charge a reduced tuition rate or waive certain fees for students in teacher preparation programs while they are student teaching or completing other required field experience.
The bill also requires the Department of Job and Family Services (JFS) to use data related to employment and vacancies in schools collected, published, and summarized by the Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) to create a list of in-demand teaching jobs regionally and statewide, which will be posted online. This update will help provide aspiring teachers with information about teaching jobs available in Ohio.
The bill now heads to the Senate for further consideration.
Clermont County Fair
Rep. Bird thanks Clermont County Fair Board President Jerry Werring for showing him around the old Market Steer and Heifer Barn. Rep. Bird voted in support of the Capital Budget, which included $600,000 to construct a new barn at the Clermont County fairgrounds that will hopefully be completed by next year's fair!
The 2026 Clermont County fair is going on right now through August 1. Rep. Bird encourages residents to stop by and enjoy the community fun!
U.S. Grant Career Center Awarded Funding Through Career-Technical Education Access Grant
Rep. Bird is pleased to announce that the U.S. Grant Career Center was awarded funding through the Career-Technical Education Access Grant to help further expand CTE opportunities for students in Southwest Ohio. Rep. Bird applauds this award, as this school and its educators are preparing students for the workforce of tomorrow.
Health Source Ribbon Cutting Event
Rep. Bird was honored to be invited by the Brown County Chamber of Commerce to attend the ribbon-cutting for the new Health Source Ohio expansion in Mt. Orab, Ohio. This new facility is a direct result of an impressive collaboration of the Governor's Office of Appalachia, the Appalachian Children’s Coalition, Health Source Ohio, and Appalachian Grant money approved by the State Legislature.
This project will bring expanded Dental, expanded Family Practice, and expanded Ob/Gyn services to southern Ohio.
