Strengthening Elections by Placing Voter ID Requirements in the State Constitution
The Ohio House passed a joint resolution to strengthen Ohio’s election process, which would put a constitutional amendment before the voters this fall to enshrine Ohio's Photo Voter ID laws in the state's Constitution.
Senate Joint Resolution 10 would require Ohioans to provide photo identification when voting. The resolution specifies what constitutes a valid identification, specifically requiring a valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification.
Currently, Ohio law requires citizens to provide voter identification before voting, as approved through the Legislature in December 2022. Current law also allows individuals to obtain initial and renewed state ID cards at no cost for Ohioans 17 and older.
Current Ohio law requires voters to provide photo identification, as approved through the Legislature in December 2022. Current law also allows Ohioans aged 17 and older to obtain initial and renewed state ID cards at no cost.
With the adoption of the resolution, the question will appear on the November ballot.
Celebrating Flag Day
Flag Day is an important holiday to remember the flag that unites us as a country. The official United States flag was adopted on June 14, 1777. Now, nearly 250 years later, it still resembles the spirit of our country. Happy Flag Day!
Urging Federal Action for Energy Infrastructure Development
The Ohio House of Representatives passed House Concurrent Resolution 35, legislation urging Congress to reform federal permitting and environmental review processes to speed up the development of energy infrastructure nationwide.
The resolution highlights concerns that federal permitting laws, including NEPA, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act, have created lengthy and complex review processes that can delay critical energy infrastructure projects.
The resolution emphasizes that these changes are needed to support a more reliable and affordable energy system as electricity demand continues to grow, strengthen the nation’s energy grid, and reduce reliance on foreign sources of critical minerals. It also highlights concerns that current delays in permitting and review processes are slowing infrastructure development, increasing costs for consumers and businesses, and limiting the United States’ energy security and economic competitiveness.
The resolution now heads to the Senate for consideration.
PASSED: House Bill 279
I'm pleased to share that one of my very first pieces of legislation, House Bill 279, has successfully passed both chambers and now awaits consideration from the Governor.
House Bill 279 works to increase the amount of funds appropriated by counties to assist veteran organizations in their efforts on Memorial Day to honor service members.
House Bill 297 does the following:
- Increases the amount a county may provide to military and veterans organizations for Memorial Day expenses.
- Increases from $100 to $200 the amount a county may appropriate to a civic organization for Memorial Day expenses.
