Greetings, from the Statehouse!
Representative Click is busier than ever as we head towards summer. Rep Click has been busy working to vote out key legislative initiatives and provide for our local community infrastructure. Let’s look at what’s been happening in the Statehouse!
This week, the Capital Budget was voted out of the House and now heads for the Governor’s desk! SB 450 successfully brought $510 million for local, critical infrastructure projects and more than $200 million for various projects across Ohio’s local communities. Representative Click championed many needs of District 88 and got a record number of appropriations passed for much-needed infrastructure improvements. Representative Click is proud to fight for District 88 and their needs.
H.B. 625 - The SAM Act, which was amended into Senate Bill 276, successfully passed the House Floor and now heads to the Governor! Amended SB 276 will now allow students to participate in team sports and other extracurricular activities at a neighboring school when those opportunities are not offered at their own school. Eligible activities include sports such as baseball, basketball, football, hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball, as well as any extracurricular activity that requires participation by multiple students.
“Every voice matters, and The SAM Act is in response to an email from a local student who otherwise would lose the opportunity to participate in his favorite sport during his senior year. This is a part of fulfilling my role as a State Representative: making good things happen for local constituents,” Representative Click states.
Representative Click is honored to have championed this legislation.
H.B. 484 creates the Workforce Investment Now (WIN) for Child Care Pilot Program, which would provide publicly funded childcare benefits to eligible childcare employees working in Ohio. The bill is designed to address staffing shortages in the childcare industry by helping childcare workers afford care for their own children, reducing one of the major barriers to recruitment and retention in the workforce. The legislation also includes an appropriation to fund the pilot program and is currently assigned to the House Finance Committee.
Representative Click offered sponsor testimony on House Bill 646 before the Ohio Senate Energy Committee, explaining that the bill originated from concerns raised by citizens in Sandusky County and across Ohio about the rapid growth of data centers. After hearing both criticism and support for data center development, he and Representative Kellie Deeter proposed creating a Data Center Study Commission to provide a public forum for all stakeholders. The House Technology and Innovation Committee strengthened and unanimously passed the bill with forty‑six cosponsors, demonstrating broad bipartisan support. Following discussions with the Senate, the effort has evolved into a more efficient bicameral select committee. Representative Click emphasized that this step is only the beginning of an ongoing process to ensure Ohioans’ voices guide future action, reaffirming that legislators work for the people and welcome continued input.
This week, Pastor Zach Pinkerton gave the opening prayer for Session. Pastor Pinkerton currently shepherds Grace Community Church in Tiffin, Ohio. Representative Click was honored to have Pastor Pinkerton join him in the Statehouse!
