Greetings, friends and neighbors!
This week has been full of legislation moving across the finish line, both in the House and Senate, for Representative Click. After many committee meetings, House Session, and hearing constituent voices, Representative Click is excited to share “What’s Clickin” in the capital of Ohio!
This week, H.B. 639 successfully passed out of the House and now “races” over to the Senate for further consideration! House Bill 639 - referred to as the “Right to Race” bill- would help protect Ohio’s established racetracks from frivolous lawsuits and burdensome local restrictions that threaten their operations. In many cases, complaints arise after new residential developments are built near long-standing racing facilities. This legislation works to preserve the rights of racetrack owners, employees, and racing fans while supporting a motorsports industry that contributes to local economies and community traditions across Ohio. Representative Click is excited to see this legislation speed across the finish line in the House!
H.B. 82 -The Trent Gallaway Work Zone Bill - was heard once again in the House Public Safety Committee. This bill seeks to strengthen safety in roadway construction zones through education. Construction workers put their lives on the line to make our roadways safe and keep them functional. Trent Gallaway was one of these workers. Trent was diligently working in a work zone when he was suddenly hit by a passing car. Mr. Gallaway sadly passed away from the sustained injuries of this tragic accident. House Bill 82 seeks to protect workers like Trent and keep accidents like this from happening again. Representative Click is thankful for the committee’s support of this legislation.

House Bill 339 successfully passed out of the House and now heads to the Senate for further consideration! H.B. 339 would allow the surviving spouse of a Purple Heart recipient to retain or obtain Ohio's Purple Heart specialty license plate after the recipient's death. Under current law, eligibility for the plate is generally limited to Purple Heart recipients. The bill extends eligibility to surviving spouses, allowing them to continue displaying the specialty plate in honor of their loved one's service and sacrifice. Representative Click is proud to co-sponsor this incredible piece of legislation.
House Bill 268 successfully passed through the Senate and now heads to the Governor's desk to be signed into law! This legislation is designed to expand employment opportunities for individuals with prior criminal records by streamlining and improving access to Certificates of Qualification for Employment (CQEs). By reducing barriers to workforce participation, H.B. 268 helps more Ohioans pursue meaningful employment and successfully reintegrate into their communities.
This week, H.B. 252 received its first hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee. This legislation works to clarify the language in Ohio’s breaking and entering statutes within the Ohio Revised Code. In State v. Bertram, a man convicted of burglary had his conviction overturned because he did not use force, stealth, or deception. He walked into an open garage and took possessions that did not belong to him. This legislation removes those requirements from the statute to protect property rights. House Bill 252 now awaits further consideration in the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The Select Committee on Data Centers has begun hearings in order to understand this issue better.
