Greetings, friends and neighbors!
We hope you had a blessed Memorial Day weekend! This week has been packed with positive legislation moving forward, and many meetings where constituent voices have been heard. Representative Click has been working tirelessly to move bills forward that address constituent needs and issues. Let’s take a look at what’s new in the Statehouse!
This week, H.B. 393 was officially signed into law! Representatives Click and Darnell Brewer have championed this legislation, which will help inmates achieve a smoother transition back into society. Ohio House Bill 393 aims to help incarcerated individuals obtain a state ID before they are released from correctional institutions. Obtaining a valid ID is critical for securing employment, housing, healthcare, and other essential services after release. Through this vital piece of legislation, incarcerated individuals will have the necessary resources to successfully reenter society and the workforce. Representative Click is thankful for all who helped move this bill across the finish line!
H.B. 816 - “Brian’s Law” - was recently introduced and awaits consideration in the House Ways and Means Committee. House Bill 816 would exempt the purchase of service dogs from Ohio sales and use tax. Sponsored by Representatives Gary Click and Brian Lorenz, the bill aims to reduce the financial burden on individuals who rely on specially trained service animals.
These service animals help ensure that those with disabilities still have support for mobility, daily living, and personal needs. Constituent Brian Weiker came to Representative Click with this legislative proposal due to his personal struggle of being able to afford a service dog. Representative Click is honored to help lead the charge for this incredible piece of legislation.
Another house bill that was recently introduced is H.B. 822. This bill would increase the Medicaid personal needs allowance for individuals living in nursing homes, intermediate care facilities, and Medicaid-funded assisted living programs. This bill seeks to provide residents with additional monthly funds for personal expenses such as clothing, toiletries, and phone service. H.B. 822 aims to help improve dignity and quality of life for some of Ohio’s most vulnerable residents. Representative Click is honored to help champion this vital piece of legislation.

Newly introduced House Bill 844 would create a state income tax credit for businesses that make qualifying technology investments. This bill is designed to help independently owned Ohio businesses modernize their operations. Through this legislation, businesses will be encouraged to invest in new technology, equipment, and innovative tools. Pioneered by Representatives Gary Click and Ty Mathews, the legislation has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee for further consideration. Representative Click is excited to see this bill introduced to the General Assembly.
Representative Click is a super State Representative, but he sadly does not possess the power to be in two places at once! This week, the Seneca County Collaborative Legislative Luncheon took place while the Representative had matters to attend to at the Statehouse.
Although Representative Click was unable to attend the luncheon in person, he still wanted to ensure attendees received a video detailing statehouse happenings and the progress being made on behalf of District 88. Rep. Click recorded a special video message providing a legislative update, current priorities, and highlighting ongoing work impacting Seneca County.
Rep. Click appreciated the invitation to participate and hopes he will be able to attend in the future.
