 I am greatly honored to represent Ohio's 80th House District, covering Miami and southern Darke counties. If you are ever in Columbus, please feel free to call and schedule a visit at The People's Office of District 80.
Addressing Data Centers
The Ohio House has been working hard to address data centers across the state and move impactful legislation forward.
House Bill 706 builds on consumer protections already being implemented in AEP Ohio’s service territory through a PUCO-approved tariff. AEP has reported that early results from this tariff structure are “working as designed.” This legislation would apply those same safeguards statewide, ensuring consistent safeguards for ratepayers across Ohio.
House Bill 706 requires data center customers to enter into long-term service agreements with electric utilities before utilities construct dedicated infrastructure. It also directs the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to establish standards for interconnection queue practices, load study deposits, and milestone requirements.
House Bill 710 prohibits public support for, and limits the construction of, new data centers.
Additionally, the Legislature has formed a committee to study the impact of data centers on farmland, energy, and taxes, and consider the need for legislation to impose regulations. The committee is made up of eight legislators, four from the Senate and four from the House; six Republicans and two Democrats. The committee held its first meeting on May 27th.
I look forward to sharing more about each of these bills and providing updates about the joint committee.
Working to Make Ivermectin Available
I support Senate Bill 249, legislation that works to authorize the dispensing of ivermectin without a prescription.
If enacted, the bill would do the following:
- Permit a pharmacist or pharmacy intern to dispense ivermectin to an adult without a prescription under a protocol established by a prescriber.
- Permit a prescriber to create a protocol for a pharmacist or pharmacy intern to follow when dispensing ivermectin without a prescription.
- Permit a prescriber who establishes a protocol to authorize one or more pharmacists to use the protocol to dispense ivermectin without a prescription.
This bill awaits further consideration in the Senate Health Committee.
Prohibiting Sharia Law
I am in support of Senate Bill 380, legislation to prohibit laws incompatible with the U.S. and Ohio Constitutions.
Senate Bill 380 prohibits any government entity from recognizing or enforcing certain laws that are incompatible with the U.S. Constitution and the Ohio Constitution. Specifically, the bill prohibits a government entity from recognizing or enforcing any law, rule, or regulation of a jurisdiction outside of the U.S., or a law, rule, or regulation of a religious system, belief, code, or ethnic or tribal custom or practice that permits, enforces, or implements any of the following:
- Prejudicial treatment of women or persons of a particular race, religion, ethnicity, social class, or caste;
- Prohibition of the right to leave, change, or renounce one’s religion or belief;
- Prohibition of otherwise protected speech or assembly;
- Plural marriages;
- Marriages of convenience or contracts for sexual services;
- Forced marriages or marriages that are otherwise unlawful under Ohio laws;
- Violence against women and children, excluding reasonable parental discipline of children;
- Politically or religiously motivated physical violence or homicide;
- Cruel and unusual punishments are prohibited by the Eighth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, including amputation, lashing, flogging, stoning, branding, or piercing;
- Female genital mutilation; or
- Human sacrifice
This bill awaits further consideration in the Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee.
Celebrating Our Fallen Heroes on Memorial Day
Memorial Day is about honoring our fallen military men and women. I enjoyed my time at the Piqua and Covington Memorial Day parades. I love how these communities respect and support our military and love our country. And THANK YOU to these patriot team members for joining me!
