I am greatly honored to represent Ohio's 80th House District, covering Miami and southern Darke counties. If you are ever in Columbus, please feel free to call and schedule a visit at The People's Office of District 80.
Addressing Medicaid Fraud
This week, Speaker Matt Huffman named GOP members to help lead efforts to address medicaid fraud here in Ohio. Representatives Jennifer Gross, Mike Dovilla, Josh Williams, and Brian Stewart will work to develop meaningful legislative solutions, strengthen oversight, and implement safeguards to prevent this from happening in the future. I look forward to supporting my colleagues in the Republican caucus as we advance this important work.
Collaborating with Miami County Judges
This week at the Statehouse, judges met with Members of the Ohio House to forge broader dialogue and collaborate on priority issues. Judge Stacey Wall, Miami County Common Pleas Court, visited the District 80 Office and Legislative Session. Ohio is blessed to have excellent legal minds like Judge Wall in our courts.
Addressing the Shortage of Veterinarians
I am a co-sponsor of House Bill 664 - legislation that works to give licensed veterinarians the ability to permit veterinary technicians to administer vaccines, expanding access to care for pets.
Ohioans from all across the state have four-legged family members that they care for so deeply, so it's important they have access to care when they need it most!
Teaching Students Basic Keys To Escape Poverty
I am a co-sponsor of Senate Bill 156 - legislation to help ensure Ohio students are prepared and successful after graduation.
The bill would require the Department of Education and Workforce to review and maintain a list of curriculum and resources for the success sequence for grades 6-12.
Under the bill, school district boards of education must provide instruction on the success sequence in one or more courses required for high school graduation.
Districts may use any of the following to achieve that goal: 1. Curriculum on the list reviewed and maintained by the Department; 2. A different curriculum that aligns with the success sequence; or 3. Curriculum that integrates instruction that is aligned with the success sequence, with the following topics a school district must include in its health curriculum:
a. The harmful effects of and legal restrictions against the use of drugs of abuse, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco; b. Sexually transmitted infection education; c. Child sexual abuse prevention in grades K-6; d. Personal safety and assault prevention in grades K-6; e. Dating violence prevention education and sexual violence prevention education in grades 7-12; and f. Prescription opioid abuse prevention.
It's critical that we put measures in place that help all Ohioans live up to their God-given potential.
Senate Bill 156 passed out of the House Education Committee and now awaits further consideration.
Celebrating Ohio’s History and Local Artist
Troy artist, Marsha Elliot’s painting will soon be added to the District 80 mini museum of local history and culture. This piece recalls the seemingly superhuman feats of Frontiersman, Simon Kenton, a central figure in the taming and settlement of the Ohio Territory before and after the American Revolution. Once captured by Shawnee warriors, he was forced to run the gauntlet nine times and survived. He saved Daniel Boone’s life in battle twice on the same day.
