Greetings from the Statehouse!
Representative Click has been hard at work advancing legislation and meeting with leaders from across the state. Several key bills sponsored by Representative Click continue to move through the legislative process. Let’s look at what’s been happening at the Statehouse this week!
House Bill 639 is “racing” through the House Local Government Committee! Unofficially called the “Right to Race Bill”, H.B. 639 seeks to protect local racetracks from frivolous lawsuits and legislation that inhibits business and racing enthusiasts from enjoying one of America’s favorite pastimes. Often, racetracks receive complaints from newly developed neighborhoods that are built near established racetracks. H.B. 639 will protect the rights of these businesses and their fans alike. Representative Click is excited to see this bill moving toward the finish line!
The CQE bill, House Bill 268, received its 4th hearing in the Senate Workforce Development Committee this week. This legislation works to expand opportunities for individuals with a criminal record to obtain employment by improving access to certificates of qualification for employment, helping more Ohioans successfully reenter the workforce. We are happy to see this legislation progress forward!
This week, members of the House and Senate announced the newly formed Joint Data Center Committee. This idea was born from Rep. Click’s bill - House Bill 646 - The Data Center Study Commission. Rep. Click stated, “We began with an open concept for addressing the questions regarding data centers, and we anticipated input from our colleagues in both chambers. This Committee is a culmination of those efforts. I look forward to seeing the final product that will provide reasoned and rational responses to the questions Ohioans are posing about data centers”.
This week also marks National Police Week. Representative Click proudly recognizes and honors the brave men and women in law enforcement who put themselves in harm’s way each day to protect Ohio families and communities. Their commitment, courage, and service deserve our deepest gratitude and respect.
