I am greatly honored to represent Ohio's 80th House District, covering Miami and southern Darke counties. If you are ever in Columbus, please feel free to call and schedule a visit at The People's Office of District 80.
Praying for Awakening Across Ohio and America
There is an upcoming prayer event hosted by the Ohio Center for Christian Virtue at the Statehouse on May 14, from 10-11:30 am. I highly encourage anyone available to join me and some of my colleagues at this wonderful event.
Restricting Harmful Use of Kratom
I am a co-sponsor for House Bill 587, legislation designed to protect Ohioans from dangerous synthetic kratom products.
Kratom is a natural botanical from the coffee family that millions of Americans safely consume for pain relief, energy, and overall wellness. Scientific literature characterizes naturally occurring pure kratom as a safe herbal supplement, while recognizing the danger of synthetic kratom and kratom with high concentrations of 7-hydroxymitragynine or 7-OH.
This bill will charge the Ohio Department of Agriculture with licensing kratom distributors and retailers in the Buckeye State and prohibit the sale of kratom products that are made of synthetic alkaloids or contain high levels of 7-OH. The introduction of this legislation follows the Food and Drug Administration’s actions this summer to begin its process to classify 7-OH as a controlled substance.
House Bill 587 awaits further consideration in the House Agriculture Committee.
Addressing Rising Property Taxes
If you hear that the Ohio Legislature is doing nothing to lower property taxes, you need to know that the message is false. House Bill 420 - Act 1 of the Taxpayers' Freedom Trilogy - is yet another way we are seeking to reform property taxes.
Continuing levies have a beginning, but no end. Today, people are paying taxes on levies implemented by their parents and grandparents, facilitated by politicians long out of office. House Bill 420 ends continuous levies, ensuring that each generation has a voice in the taxes that they pay.
Spreading the Word About Equal Protection For Unborn Babies
We are in a constitutional crisis! The Ohio Constitution contradicts itself and contradicts the U.S. Constitution. On one hand, the unalienable right to life is assured for all people. This right is given by God, not the government, not the people. Yet Article I Section 22 of the Ohio Constitution states, “Every individual has a right to make and carry out one's own reproductive decisions, including…abortion.” This is one of the worst things our state has ever done.
My joint sponsor, Levi Dean, and I support H.B. No. 370, which would guarantee equal protection to all people from conception in the womb to natural death. We appeared at Clough Pike Baptist Church in Cincinnati to inform Ohioans about the bill and answer questions. This group, representing eight churches, understands that abortion is murder and was strongly supportive of our bill.
