Greetings District 88!
This week at the Statehouse was marked by meaningful conversations, community engagement, and continued work to advance policies that support Ohio families and local communities. Here’s a look at what’s been happening in the “Heart of it All”:
Representative Click had the honor of addressing the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association, where he discussed key legislation currently under consideration in the General Assembly. Rep. Click served as a law enforcement chaplain for over a decade and has a heart for all who wear the badge.
Rep. Click spoke to them about H.B. 144, Keith’s Law. This legislation began and was inspired by a constituent with special needs in the district, and it creates a voluntary special needs database to be used by first responders. This equips law enforcement with the tools they need while protecting vulnerable citizens in times of crisis. He also discussed H.B. 252, which modifies the definition of burglary. Prosecutors and law enforcement brought this issue to Rep. Click’s attention when a constituent had his burglary conviction overturned because he did not use force, stealth, or deception when he walked into an open garage and stole a $500 piece of equipment.
H.B. 393 and H.B. 268 are bills that Rep. Click has sponsored to help combat recidivism. A sheriff once said that some offenders were doing life sentences two years at a time. These bills are designed to help individuals get a fresh start after being released from incarceration.
Representative Click remains a strong supporter of the men and women in uniform who work every day to protect our communities and uphold public safety.
House Bill 87, The STORK Act (Strategic Tax Opportunities for Raising Kids), continues to be a top legislative priority for Representative Click. This proposal reflects a broader commitment not only to protecting life, but also to supporting families as they raise children. House Bill 87 will allow parents to claim a child as a tax deduction in the year of conception rather than the year of a child’s birth. Every parent knows that their expenses begin long before delivery.
Representative Click is proud to champion this legislation and looks forward to its continued progress. Constituents interested in supporting H.B. 87 are encouraged to share their perspectives with the House Ways and Means Committee.
Representative Click also joined the Tiffin Rotary Club to celebrate its 100th Anniversary. During the event, he presented a commendation to recognize the organization’s longstanding commitment to service and community development. The Rotary Club has been a cornerstone of the Tiffin community, and we extend our congratulations on this remarkable milestone!
