Greetings District 88!
Representative Click continues to stay actively engaged across the district, meeting with constituents, listening to local concerns, and advancing thoughtful solutions at the Statehouse. Here’s a look at what’s been happening around the “Heart of it All”:
This week, Representative Click had the opportunity to meet with Seneca County school principals to discuss key issues impacting K–12 education. The conversation highlighted the growing challenges educators face in meeting state requirements within limited instructional time, as well as the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on student learning. Representative Click values these candid discussions and remains committed to supporting educators, reducing unnecessary burdens, and ensuring students have every opportunity to succeed.
Fuel and Focus, a local program at Columbian High School, plays an important role in supporting students’ academic growth and personal development. Representative Click recently had the opportunity to speak with participants, where he shared his personal story of overcoming challenges, including childhood poverty and his father’s struggle with substance use disorder and homelessness. His message to students emphasized that difficult circumstances do not define their future and that success is possible through hard work and perseverance. He encouraged them to view obstacles as opportunities and problems as possibilities to grow. Rep. Click expressed his appreciation for the chance to connect with such motivated young people.
Representative Click also attended the swearing-in ceremony of Justin Smith, who will be serving the remainder of a vacated term as County Commissioner. Justin brings strong leadership and a clear commitment to public service, and Representative Click is confident he will serve the community with integrity and dedication.
An exciting piece of legislation, championed by Representative Click, successfully passed the Senate this week! House Bill 393 seeks to provide a state ID for incarcerated individuals before reentering society. State ID is crucial in order to obtain employment, housing, and access to public services. Through this piece of legislation, barriers once thought difficult will be made easy for those seeking a new start in life. House Bill 393 now heads back to the House for concurrence and then to the Governor's desk! Representative Click is thankful for all that Jason Varney (Oriana House) and Craig Shumaker (West Central Community Correctional Facility) did for this piece of legislation.
“What’s Clickin'” with State Representative Gary Click offers a consistent and insightful look at the work happening at the Ohio Statehouse. Now more than six months in, the series features numerous episodes covering key legislation and important policy discussions impacting communities across Ohio. We encourage you to explore past episodes to hear “What’s Clickin'” in the statehouse!
