Greetings, Friends and Neighbors!
The Statehouse is a little bit quieter this week, but Representative Click has been busy nonetheless! With many meetings and much work to do on moving legislation, we are going to take a look at a month in review.
 Ohio House Bills:
House Bill 639 is “racing” through the House Local Government Committee! Unofficially called the “Right to Race Bill”, H.B. 639 seeks to protect local racetracks from frivolous lawsuits and legislation that inhibits business and racing enthusiasts from enjoying one of America’s favorite pastimes. Often, racetracks receive complaints from new developmental neighborhoods that have been built near established racetracks. H.B. 639 will protect the rights of these businesses and their fans alike. Representative Click is excited to see this bill moving toward the finish line!
Representative Click has introduced legislation focused on parental rights and family policy. House Bill 693, known as the “Affirming Families First Act,” is generating positive discussion as it moves through the House. Parents have an inalienable right to raise their children as they see fit. H.B. 693 ensures that all parents have a voice in how their children are educated and shaped by the public education system.
In addition, Representative Click is leading the charge to lower property taxes through legislative initiatives. Representative Click has championed H.B. 420, which seeks to provide property tax reform and long-term fiscal responsibility. Representative Click is happy to see this legislation at the forefront of the tax policy conversation.
House Bill 625 - The SAM (Student Athlete Mobility) Act - is kicking down barriers and moving towards the goal for our youth in sports. The SAM Act seeks to help youth engage in their favorite sports without the barriers of school bureaucracy. Often, when schools can’t field a team for a sport, talented youth have no place to grow their passions. Through H.B. 625, students would be able to combine with other local schools in order to be able to field a team. Representative Click is hopeful that this bill will be a homerun!
Bills being considered in the Ohio Senate:
Several bills of Representative Clicks have successfully passed out of the Ohio House and now await further hearings in the Senate. Let’s look at what’s “Clicking” in the Senate.
House Bill 252 - H.B. 252 successfully passed the House and now heads to the Senate for further consideration. House Bill 252 modifies Ohio law related to burglary, aggravated burglary, breaking and entering, and trespassing. The legislation is intended to strengthen criminal statutes related to unlawful entry and provide clearer guidance for prosecution and sentencing in these cases. Representative Click is excited to see this bill progress through the Ohio Senate.
House Bill 646 - legislation to establish The Data Center Study Commission - seeks to give both sides of the data center issue a place at the table, to understand the community effects of these facilities. Constituents and Representatives alike have questions about these facilities and the impact they may or may not have on our electric grids, waterways, and agricultural industries within Ohio. H.B. 646 seeks to better understand this issue and provide guidance and solutions to the Ohio General Assembly. The entire Ohio House is excited to see this legislation moving forward.
HB 486 - The Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act - is now being considered in the Ohio Senate Education Committee. H.B. 486 seeks to protect and provide clarity for educators who desire to teach the positive impacts of Christianity on America’s founding and heritage. For many teachers, there is a level of fear that comes with teaching the true history of our nation. The Charlie Kirk American Heritage Act simply provides an extra layer of protection for educators to teach the true history of what inspired the greatest of the United States of America.
This week on “What’s Clickin” with State Representative Gary Click, we have an incredible story of recovery and success from local constituent Joseph Martinez! In this week’s episode titled “How a CQE can turn Obstacles into Opportunities,” we will learn about Joe’s story and path towards the incredible work he does today.
