Greetings, Friends and Neighbors!
The Statehouse has been active with new legislation, and Representative Click continues working to advance policies that support Ohio families and taxpayers. Here is an update on recent activity in the People’s House!
This week, Ohio House Bill 420-the first proposal in the Taxpayer Trilogy series- received proponent testimony in the Ohio House Ways and Means Committee. The legislation aims to reduce long-term property tax burdens by ending the practice of continuous levies. In many communities, taxpayers are still paying levies approved decades ago with no expiration date. House Bill 420 would require these levies to have a defined endpoint, ensuring greater transparency and giving voters regular opportunities to reconsider them. Representative Click is encouraged to see this legislation moving through the committee process!
Representative Click was excited to welcome Jerri Miller, Sandusky County Auditor, to the House Ways and Means Committee! She is a valued member of our district and an incredibly insightful voice for House Bill 420.
Another important measure, Ohio House Bill 252, was recently passed out of the Ohio House Judiciary Committee. This legislation works to clarify the language in Ohio’s breaking and entering statutes within the Ohio Revised Code. In some recent cases, the broad wording of the current statute has created legal uncertainty and led to acquittals. House Bill 252 seeks to provide clearer guidance in the law to better protect property rights and ensure consistent application of the statute.
Additionally, Ohio House Bill 646, which creates the Data Center Study Commission, unanimously passed, with a 97-0 vote in the House and now moves to the Senate for further consideration! This legislation establishes a commission to study the potential impacts of data centers on local communities. The commission will examine issues such as electrical grid capacity, water usage, and other infrastructure considerations to provide policymakers and communities with reliable information as data center development continues across Ohio. Representative Click believes it is important that all perspectives are considered and that communities have access to clear, factual data when evaluating these projects.
Representative Click and Kellie Deeter sat down with “Message from the House: With the Majority” to discuss House Bill 646 and the impact it would have on communities.
Representative Click also had the opportunity to meet with advocates from Adoption Network Cleveland to discuss the organization’s work supporting adoptive families and children in need of permanent homes. Adoption plays a critical role in providing stability and opportunity for children involved in the foster care system. Adoption Network Cleveland continues to be a strong partner in supporting families and advocating for children across the state, and Representative Click looks forward to continued collaboration with the organization!
We hope you have a wonderful rest of your week!
