I am greatly honored to represent Ohio's 80th House District, covering Miami and southern Darke counties. If you are ever in Columbus, please feel free to call and schedule a visit at The People's Office of District 80.
Protecting Separation of Church and State
I provided sponsor testimony this week for H.C.R. 9 - The Leland Muhlenberg House Joint Resolution. This resolution urges President Trump and Congress to repeal the Johnson Amendment.
This legislation calls on the U.S. Congress to repeal the Johnson Amendment, which threatens to strip churches of their tax-exempt status if they speak out about political candidates or things the government calls “political issues.” This resolution reminds Congress that the First Amendment still says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech.” The Johnson Amendment is used frequently to threaten churches with government action if they say the wrong things.
Supporting Students of Faith in Schools
I'm a joint-sponsor for House Bill 531 - the School Chaplain Act - legislation to enhance student support services in Ohio’s public schools by allowing school districts, community schools, and STEM schools to engage volunteer chaplains.
Thank you to our witnesses who came to the Statehouse and provided proponent testimony for this very important bill. We greatly appreciate your support!
Listening To Concerns About Data Centers
I am a co-sponsor for House Bill 646 - legislation to form a bipartisan data center study commission. This proposed legislation is in response to the rapid growth of data centers in Ohio, coupled with the growing angst in local communities.
Concerns range from the use of agricultural land to noise pollution, water usage and disposal, energy demand, national security, and much more. According to some estimates, there are roughly 200 data centers in Ohio and more being proposed.
This bill was recently voted out of the House Technology and Innovation Committee. I look forward to providing more updates soon!
Hosting Constituents for the State of the State Address
These ten constituents came to the Statehouse to join me for Governor DeWine’s final State of the State Address in the House Chamber. These aspiring young Ohioans, from the Covington, Arcanum, and Tri-Village School Districts, are finding their way to understand local government so they can use their God-given talents to make a positive impact. Thank you for coming!
