Sponsor Testimony for House Bill 455
 Representative Bird is a co-sponsor of House Bill 455 - legislation to modernize Ohio’s education code by eliminating outdated educator requirements and reducing administrative burden to ensure teachers can devote more time to delivering high-quality instruction to Ohio students.
Key components of House Bill 455 include:
- Revises or eliminates certain reporting requirements and mandates related to the Department of Education and Workforce (DEW);
- Revises the performance measures used to calculate performance ratings for two of the six Ohio State Report Card components—1) Graduation and 2) College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness;
- Allows families of eligible children to choose to use the Early Childhood Education Grant Program instead of another source of state funding for childcare; and
- Eliminates obsolete provisions of the Ohio Revised Code related to the state report card and state assessments for public and chartered nonpublic schools.
Rep. Bird joined Rep. Manning to provide testimony on House Bill 455 in the Senate Education Committee this week.
Senate Bill 9 - Legislation to Update Federal Tax Laws
During session this week, the House voted on Senate Bill 9, legislation to update federal tax laws. This bill included an emergency clause to allow the change to take effect immediately.
Unfortunately, Ohio House Democrats voted down the emergency clause - delaying implementation and negatively impacting thousands of Ohio businesses across the state. As a legislator committed to support Ohio’s job creators and economic growth, Rep. Bird is disappointed with their decision to delay pro-business legislation.
Ohio Farm Bureau
 Representative Bird met with members of the Ohio Farm Bureau from Clermont, Brown, and Adams Counties this week to discuss legislative priorities that promote building healthy rural communities.
Representative Bird Releases Statement on STRS Case Ruling
Representative Bird issued a statement in response to Thursday's ruling in State of Ohio v. Wade Steen, et al. Rep. Bird serves as Chair of the Ohio Retirement Study Council.
“I commend this judicial action, which upholds important protections for the State Teachers Retirement System and safeguards the benefits of both current and future retirees. This decision affirms the necessity of the legislature’s efforts in the recent state budget to strengthen oversight and provide greater accountability within the system. As chair of the Ohio Retirement Study Council, an STRS retiree and an elected official committed to protecting taxpayer dollars, I view this ruling as a significant victory for transparency, fiscal responsibility, and the long-term stability of the retirement system.”
