Greetings, Friends and Neighbors!
This week has been a productive and busy week for Representative Click! Let’s take a look at what’s been going on at the Statehouse.
Affirming Families First Act (AFFA) - Representative Click and Representative Josh Williams held a press conference to announce House Bill 693 – the Affirming Families First Act – which aims to clarify parental rights and limit gender-identity screening in Ohio’s child welfare system.
Investigative journalist, Megan Brock (Daily Wire) drew Rep. Click’s attention to a crisis in Cuyahoga County with this article Biden Harris Admin Tracks Children Through Database and covered the introduction of Affirming Families First Act in her debut at the Morning Wire this week. “It is unconscionable to think that local government entities would flag a parent as being a danger to their son for declining to buy him a dress or call him her. We will not tolerate such government overreach in the state of Ohio,” said Rep. Click.
AFFA would clarify that it is not abusive for parents or guardians to affirm a child’s sex rather than a perceived gender identity. If enacted, this legislation would prohibit the following:
- Proactive screening of children in the child welfare system for sexual orientation or gender identity and the maintenance of databases containing that information.
- Contracting with or using educational materials from outside organizations that suggest non-affirmation of a child’s biological sex is psychologically harmful or constitutes a threat to the child’s safety.
Representative Click is proud of this piece of legislation and is thrilled to see this move through the legislative process. You can watch the full press conference here: Press Conference.
