I am greatly honored to represent Ohio's 80th House District, covering Miami and southern Darke counties. If you are ever in Columbus, please feel free to call and schedule a visit at The People's Office of District 80.
Working To Stop Human Traffickers
Human trafficking is one of the darkest evils threatening Ohioans. I will do everything possible to get these criminals off our streets and in prison where they belong.
With the help of Attorney General Dave Yost’s office, Representative Marilyn John and I introduced H.B. No. 507 - legislation to prohibit a person from receiving proceeds of prostitution.
This addition to Ohio’s law will give law enforcement and the courts an additional way to convict traffickers. You’re not going to believe this - Ohio is the only state in the U.S. that doesn’t already have this law on the books. It’s time Ohio gets this done!
This bill is currently awaiting further consideration in House Public Safety Committee.
Working To Protect Law Enforcement Officers
A local, retired police officer contacted my office expressing his concerns over agitators obstructing law enforcement officers when they attempt to apprehend suspected criminals.
Since that phone call, we have seen threats and obstruction against police increase alarmingly. I am glad to report that House Bill 20 - legislation to ensure first responders can carry out their responsibilities effectively during emergency situations passed the Ohio House and now awaits further consideration in the Senate.
House Bill 20 will increase the penalty of obstructing official business from a second-degree misdemeanor to a first-degree misdemeanor if the victim of the offense is an emergency service responder, commonly known as a first responder, who is responding to an emergency in an official capacity. The bill will also extend current law to include probation officers under the definition of emergency service responder.
Working To Address Ohio’s Dysfunctional Death Penalty
Attorney General Dave Yost has called upon the General Assembly to address Ohio’s dysfunctional death penalty.
To illustrate this appeal, he cited a 42-year period (1981-2023) when 341 death sentences were given but only 56 carried out. One obstacle to justice is the refusal of pharmaceutical companies to supply the drugs used for lethal injection.
That's why I co-sponsored House Bill 36, legislation to add nitrogen hypoxia as a method of execution. Representatives Stewart and Plummer are carrying this bill and I hope to see it move forward in the upcoming year.
Working With Leaders Who Make Our Region Great
Western Ohio is one of the best places on earth to live due in large part to the work of leaders like these!
The Darke County Chamber of Commerce recognized numerous business and community leaders who are doing great work in this community. It was a joy to join Chamber CEO, Rachel Neal, and her team at Eagles Landing in Greenville for this outstanding event.
