WorkOhio Visit in Southwest Ohio
Representative Bird had the opportunity to attend the kick off for 'WorkOhio', a new initiative aimed at assisting Ohioans in their job search by connecting individuals with in-demand jobs through a personalized approach from job experts. This will benefit workforce development in both Clermont and Brown Counties! Rep. Bird is thankful to Lt. Governor Tressel for kicking off this great initiative in Southwest Ohio.
House Bill 455 - Legislation to Modernize Ohio's Education Code
Representative Bird is a co-sponsor of House Bill 455 - legislation to modernize Ohio’s education code by eliminating outdated educator requirements and reducing administrative burden to ensure teachers can devote more time to delivering high-quality instruction to Ohio students.
Key components of House Bill 455 include:
Revises or eliminates certain reporting requirements and mandates related to the Department of Education and Workforce (DEW);
Revises the performance measures used to calculate performance ratings for two of the six Ohio State Report Card components—1) Graduation and 2) College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness;
Allows families of eligible children to choose to use the Early Childhood Education Grant Program instead of another source of state funding for childcare; and
Eliminates obsolete provisions of the Ohio Revised Code related to the state report card and state assessments for public and chartered nonpublic schools.
House Bill 455 now moves to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
Williamsburg Township Receives H2Ohio Funding
Representative Bird is pleased to share that Williamsburg Township received funding through the H2Ohio grant to help improve their water quality by reducing nutrient runoff. This will help prevent harmful algal blooms in Lake Harsha at Eastfork State Park.
