Rep Report
Property taxes remains a top priority for me this general assembly, both for the constituents of District 45 and for homeowners across Ohio.
As we continue working to ease the property tax burden, I am proud to support several important pieces of legislation aimed at providing much-needed relief. House Bill 309 seeks to limit the impact of rising property values on local tax rates by reducing the increase in property taxes for homeowners. This bill ensures that Ohioans will not be overwhelmed by tax hikes due to inflated property valuations, giving homeowners the protection they deserve.
Another important bill is House Bill 129, which aims to prevent unnecessary property tax increases by ensuring that local governments can only raise taxes in line with inflation. This measure is crucial in protecting Ohioans from tax increases that exceed their ability to pay, allowing taxpayers to better plan for the future without the fear of unpredictable hikes.
Additionally, House Bill 186 offers targeted property tax credits for homeowners in school districts on the 20-mill floor, which currently guarantees certain districts a minimum tax rate. This bill will cap property tax revenue growth from these districts to the rate of inflation, ensuring that tax increases remain fair and manageable for homeowners, especially in areas where property values have significantly increased.
Lastly, House Bill 335 addresses the issue of inside millage levies by requiring county budget commissions to adjust levy rates to limit revenue growth to inflation. This bill provides local governments with the ability to meet their needs without burdening taxpayers with excessive tax increases. It also gives flexibility for those governments to balance their budgets while ensuring that property taxes do not outpace the economic growth of our communities.
I am committed to keeping you informed as I work to reduce the property tax burden on Ohioans and to make our tax system more equitable. As the House has returned to session, I will continue advocating for property tax reform to ensure that Ohioans are not overburdened by high taxes.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact my office. It is an honor and privilege to serve you!
