Greetings, Friends and Neighbors!
House Bill 144 Signed into Law
This week has been extremely eventful for Representative Click! He has been pushing legislation forward and continuing to stand for the people of Ohio.
HB 144 - “Keith’s Law” was signed into law this week, and we are thrilled that this will help those who need it most! Keith’s Law creates a voluntary special needs database for first responders, in order to help people who may need special care when first responders arrive on scene. Keith Jesse came to Representative Click with this idea. He attended the signing as well as Brendan and Julia Garrett, who were strong supporters of this bill.
We are so extremely excited that this bill is now law, and that those who are uniquely vulnerable will get the care they so greatly deserve.
We brought back Representative Click’s former aide, Benjamin Nettles, for the signing since he worked so hard on this legislation. Ben is currently serving in the Speaker’s office.
History buffs will appreciate that Abraham Lincoln was sitting at this desk while visiting Ohio when he learned that he had won the presidency.
House Bill 268 Advances Out of the Small Business Committee
Another piece of legislation sponsored by Representative Click, House Bill 268, successfully passed out of the House Small Business Committee. This bill has been championed by Representative Click and Representative Latyna Humphrey in order to modify when an individual may file for a “Certificate of Qualification for Employment” (CQE). Under current law, an individual released from incarceration may have to wait up to five years to apply. However, lack of meaningful employment often stands as a barrier to rehabilitation and increases the risk of recidivism. House Bill 268 is a path forward for individuals seeking a fresh start in life. This is good for people and good for business.
Property Tax Reform Passes on the House Floor
This week, HB 335 and HB 186 passed the Ohio House Floor! HB 335 and HB 186 will give much needed property tax relief to Ohio citizens and protect the interests of those who need it most.
HB 335 and HB 186 will create a major overhaul of Ohio’s property tax and local government finance structure. House Bill 335 limits increases for inside mileage to the rate of inflation. HB 186 turns back the clock on the recent property tax spikes, limiting them to the rate of inflation also while simultaneously holding our schools harmless for actual losses over this appraisal period compared to their current property tax collections.
We are excited to see these bills head over to the Senate for consideration!
