Friends and Neighbors,
As the leaves turn and we welcome the fall season, I hope you and your families are enjoying the cooler weather and the many community events this time of year brings. The Ohio House has been busy over the past few months, and I’m proud to share some updates on recent legislative activity and my continued work to support families, businesses, and communities across our district.
Legislation
House Bill 170 – Carbon Capture and Storage
House Bill 170, which I proudly supported, recently passed out of the Ohio House. This legislation advances Ohio’s energy innovation by establishing a legal framework for the safe use of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies. By allowing captured carbon dioxide to be stored underground in suitable geological formations, this bill positions Ohio as a leader in carbon management and energy diversification—helping reduce emissions while supporting economic development in our energy-producing regions.
House Bill 227 – Excavation Safety and Pipeline Protection
House Bill 227 strengthens Ohio’s “Call Before You Dig” law by improving coordination between excavators and utility operators. The legislation enhances safety standards for excavation projects and aims to prevent costly damage to underground utilities like pipelines, fiber, and water lines. These updates protect public safety, reduce repair costs, and ensure our infrastructure remains reliable for years to come.
House Bill 186 & House Bill 335 – “Stop the Spikes” Property Tax Relief
I recently voted in support of two key bills that continue our Majority Caucus’s leadership on property tax reform—providing more than $2.4 billion in savings to Ohioans.
-
H.B. 186 establishes an Inflation Cap Credit that limits school district property tax increases to the rate of inflation, saving property owners nearly $1.7 billion over three years. The bill also includes funding to ensure schools are held harmless during this adjustment period.
-
H.B. 335 similarly caps increases in inside millage collections to the rate of inflation, delivering an estimated $621–$763 million in additional tax relief over three years.
These measures are part of a broader effort to make property taxes more transparent, predictable, and fair for homeowners across Ohio.
Community Engagement
This fall has been full of opportunities to connect with residents and celebrate the great things happening throughout our district. I’ve had the honor of visiting several local schools to meet with students, teachers, and administrators. These visits are always inspiring—our educators continue to do outstanding work preparing the next generation of Ohio leaders, and I remain committed to supporting them through smart policy and strong state investment.
|
I’ve also had the pleasure of presenting official commendations to new businesses and organizations opening their doors in our community. These ribbon cuttings and celebrations highlight the entrepreneurial spirit that makes our region such a wonderful place to live and work. |

Beyond official visits, I’ve been attending community events, local fairs, and roundtables to hear directly from you. Whether it’s assisting with state-related issues, discussing legislative concerns, or recognizing community leaders, staying connected helps ensure your voices are represented in Columbus. Serving our district means listening, learning, and acting on your behalf—and I am deeply grateful for your continued engagement and partnership.
As we move toward the end of 2025, I remain focused on supporting policies that strengthen families, promote economic growth, and preserve the values that make our communities thrive. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office with any questions, concerns, or ideas—we are always happy to help.
Warm regards,
State Representative Monica Robb Blasdel Rep79@ohiohouse.gov 614-466-8022 77 South High Street, Floor 11, Columbus OH, 43215
