Fellow Ohioans,
It continues to be an honor to serve as your State Representative for Summit County. This month, I’ve had the opportunity to engage with several community partners, visit with students and educators, meet with local businesses, and participate in efforts to strengthen both civic education and public infrastructure. These experiences reinforce why it’s so important we continue working together to move Ohio forward.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office. We are here to serve you.
Sincerely,
Bill Roemer State Representative District 31

In recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, I’ve joined Rep. Jack Daniels in introducing a Concurrent Resolution encouraging Ohio students in grades 1–12 to read and discuss this foundational document during the 2025–2026 school year.
The Declaration remains a cornerstone of our democracy, declaring that all individuals are created equal and entitled to liberty. As we prepare to mark this historic milestone, it is fitting that Ohio's students reflect on these principles and their continued relevance today.
This resolution also supports the national Task Force 250 effort—established to promote civic literacy and patriotic education ahead of the anniversary. Our goal is to help the next generation appreciate the responsibilities of citizenship and the value of self-governance.
District Update
Power Outages in Barberton and New Franklin
Recently, many residents have raised concerns about frequent power outages in Barberton and New Franklin. I, along with Rep. Jack Daniels, reached out to Ohio Edison for answers—and they’ve responded with a detailed breakdown.
Here’s what we learned:
- 53% of outages were caused by trees or limbs outside the company’s right-of-way
- 14% were due to birds or animals contacting electrical equipment
- 11% were the result of severe weather
- 20% were due to equipment issues or accidents
Ohio Edison has committed to accelerated tree trimming, additional line patrols, and removal of hazardous osprey nests—all in an effort to reduce outages and improve communication during service interruptions.
We will continue monitoring the situation to ensure residents get the reliable power service they deserve.
Events
Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad Tour
I was honored to join other federal, state, and local leaders for a special visit to the Fitzwater Operations Facility with the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. We boarded a historic train for a scenic ride through Cuyahoga Valley National Park, highlighting conservation efforts and recent riverbank stabilization projects made possible through the Great American Outdoors Act.
The event also introduced Greg Peckham, the new President and CEO of the Conservancy for CVNP and included updates from Superintendent Lisa Petit on how these partnerships are preserving Ohio’s only national park for future generations.
Stark State College Legislative Update
I had the pleasure of joining local officials at Stark State College in Akron for a legislative briefing. The college continues to play a vital role in workforce development, affordable education, and community engagement throughout Northeast Ohio.
Ohio Lottery Commission Tour
This month, I toured the Ohio Lottery Commission facilities to learn more about their operations, funding mechanisms for public education, and responsible gaming initiatives. These behind-the-scenes insights are critical as we evaluate how lottery revenue provides $1.4 billion in funding for our schools and public services.
Small Business Spotlight: Russell Products Tour
I always enjoy visiting local businesses, and this month I had the chance to tour Russell Products in Akron. They specialize in anodizing aluminum and metal coating services, helping power Ohio’s manufacturing economy. A big thank you to co-owner Jerry Gray for the tour and the conversation about challenges facing small businesses.
Tour of the Humane Society of Summit County
I toured the Humane Society of Summit County to learn more about their efforts to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need. Their staff and volunteers do remarkable work, and I’m proud to support their mission of compassion and care.
Commendation for New U.S. Citizen
I was honored to present a commendation to Balbir Singh Sandhu in recognition of his achievement in becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen. His journey and commitment to this country are a reminder of the enduring promise of the American Dream.
Nature and Leadership: Kayaking with Secretary LaRose
I joined Secretary of State Frank LaRose for a kayaking trip through Northeast Ohio’s beautiful waterways. The outing was a unique way to connect over Ohio’s outdoor recreation, environmental stewardship, and public service.
Thank you for your continued trust and support as we work to strengthen our communities, support our students, and honor the values that have shaped our state and nation. If you ever need assistance with a state issue or have feedback on legislative matters, please reach out to my office.
