Budget Override Veto on Item #66
I'm pleased to announce that I recently voted in support of overriding the Governor's veto on Item #66 in the Budget, which will increase transparency and fairness in Ohio’s complex property tax system – the number one issue our office hears from constituents.
Item #66 does not cut school funding. In fact, public schools will receive $692 million more over the biennium compared to FY 25. We overrode the Governor's veto because property taxes have grown at an unsustainable rate. Replacement levies inevitably lead to tax increases, and so-called emergency levies are often anything but—some communities have renewed the same “emergency” levy for decades, with no real end in sight.

House Bill 23 - Escaped Convict Alert Program (ECAP)
I'm thrilled to share that House Bill 23 continues to earn praise in the press, with recent coverage highlighting its lasting impact and bi-partisan support. You can read that article here.
The Escaped Convict Alert Program (ECAP) would be used to alert the public to an incarcerated felon that has escaped from a jail, workhouse or correctional institution. Local law enforcement will be the controlling agency that would activate the ECAP once they are informed of the escape.

City of Norton Veterans Memorial Dedication Ceremony
I recently joined the City of Norton for a heartfelt Veterans Memorial Dedication Ceremony on Friday, July 4, 2025, to honor the brave men and women who served the country in all branches of the military.
The event featured a moving military service performed by the 555th Honors Detachment, paying tribute to local veterans and their families for their sacrifice and service.
Major General James Hodge (pictured above), a retired U.S. Army officer with over three decades of distinguished service, served as the keynote speaker for the ceremony. He culminated his military career as the commanding general of the Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM) and the Sustainment Center of Excellence at Fort Lee, Virginia.
The new memorial demonstrates the community’s deep appreciation for veterans and the significance of this moment in the city’s history.
Summit County Fair
It's officially county fair season! I had the honor of attending a ribbon-cutting ceremony to kick-off this year’s Summit County Fair.
I was proud to support our local 4-H youth by purchasing a turkey from Greyson at the 4-H auction.
Visit to Grafton and Lorain Correctional Institutions
I had the opportunity to visit the Grafton and Lorain Correctional Institutions. These visits provided a valuable and eye-opening perspective into the daily operations and challenges within Ohio’s correctional system. I was especially impressed by the leadership, professionalism, and dedication exhibited by the staff at both institutions.

I provided remarks at the SALT (State and Local Taxes) Conference earlier this month. This conference is dedicated to discussing and analyzing current issues and developments in state and local taxation.
Rep. Roemer was the Guest Speaker at the Ohio Society of CPAs' July Town Hall
I also provided remarks at the Ohio Society of CPAs' July Town Hall. I discussed the passage of the State Operating budget - House Bill 96 - and how it impacts the state's accounting profession.
Over 600 OSCPA members attended this month's Townhall meeting.
PACE Center Ribbon Cutting
I recently attended the ribbon-cutting for the new PACE Center serving Mahoning and Trumbull counties. I passed legislation in 2022 creating the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the elderly (PACE) Act. The PACE Act is a managed care model that provides participants with needed medical care in multiple settings. The PACE Act expands Medicaid to ensure the elderly can stay in their homes and have more options to save on burdensome costs for healthcare. I'm also happy to report that there is language within the recently passed State Operating Budget that expands the PACE Act.
PPG Barberton Plant Tour and Brieifng
I also took a tour of the PPG Barberton Plant. I had a meeting with their leadership team to discuss their upcoming solar projects in Summit County, and to discuss House Bill 15 - a comprehensive energy initiative, and House Bill 303 - legislation to establish a community energy program and pilot program.
Thank you for your continued trust and support as we work together to make Ohio a better place for all. Please don’t hesitate to contact my office with any questions or concerns.
