Johnathan Newman State Representative House District 80
May Report
Health Committee Testimony on House Bill 172
Most Ohioans are surprised when they learn that current law in our state allows public schools to arrange and provide mental health treatment for minors, and then keep that information from their parents. That is wrong. Parents have the right to direct their children’s mental health care. I was glad to give testimony on H.B. 172, my bill to protect parents’ rights in public schools. It will prohibit minors from being given mental health treatment without their parent’s knowledge and permission.

Memorial Day Parades
My team and I honored and paid tribute to our military families and those who gave the last full measure by participating in three Memorial Day parades in Piqua, West Milton and Covington. District 80 has the most patriotic supporters of our military anywhere around.
Arcanum Town Hall Event
The Arcanum Opera House was a excellent venue for the May town hall meeting. There was a great attendance with lots of issues and concerns addressed including property tax, the budget, and protecting Ohio land from purchase by our nation’s adversaries. The donuts from Farmers Daughter Bakery were great as always and conversation with Darke County constituents couldn’t be better. Also, the Arcanum Preservation Society is making great progress renovating this historic site and everyone was thrilled to see it.
My next town hall meeting will be Monday night, June 23 at 6:00pm in Piqua at Johnston Farm and Indian Agency. Hope to see you then!
Congratulations to our Valedictorians and Salutatorians
I was proud to present numerous commendations to the valedictorians and salutatorians of District 80 high schools on behalf of the Ohio House of Representatives. Miami and Darke Counties have some of the best schools in Ohio and these graduates show it. Congratulations to all our graduates!
Honored Marine Veteran, Dave Norman
Dave Norman was one of the Marines responsible for evacuating 7,000 people from the roof of the U.S. Embassy during the withdrawal from Vietnam the day Saigon fell into to enemy control. A hero for his efforts but never awarded any military medal, he was proudly honored by numerous leaders in Miami County and across the state. It was a joy to present him with this Statehouse commendation for his self-sacrificing service.
Piqua National Guard Celebrates 150 Years

Faithfulness In Marriage Honored
This amazing event took place at Cove Spring Church where I helped honor ten couples who have been married for 50 years or more; three of them for more than 60 years. This church has been a blessing to the community for 215 years! Can you believe that? That's almost as long as America has been a nation! Faithfulness in marriage is honoring to God and it is good for everyone in our society. Let's continue to hold high the value of marital faithfulness and family.
