The Marines Have Landed!
After almost 27 years serving in the US Marine Corps, it’s always a privilege to interact with young Marines defending us all. SSgt. Mallory Green is at OSU preparing to become a 2nd Lt. and a Naval Aviator. Maj. Caleb Griffin is the Senior Instructor at The Ohio State University ROTC unit. We also flew in the same USMC squadrons for awhile! Ohio remains the home of so many current service members and it is a privilege to support them whenever we can. Semper Fidelis!

Dana Matz President of the Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce led our annual Muskingum area meeting. Strong communication with our business leaders is so important! We genuinely share the same basic values and are committed to defending our district in a unified way. Shared vision + unity of effort = team success!
March 24 Visit at Philo High School
From left to right: Adam McElhaney - Asst. Principal, Dr. Kacey Cottrill - Superintendent, myself, Scott Paul - Treasurer, Scott Mosebrook - Principal
The Philo High School leadership provided our office a very inspiring tour on March 24. They continue to tailor their class opportunities that best support their students’ future plans and create a culture that matches the Philo area value system. College, Technical school, agriculture, manufacturing. The Philo leaders are focused on the mental and physical welfare of all their students. We are blessed to have their leadership!
Dr. Emily Watson Meeting
Dr. Emily Watson visited on April 1st to discuss the Ohio Optometry Association. Dr. Watson was born and raised in Frazeysburg, attended Tri-Valley, received her doctorate at OSU and wanted to return to our community to help us all enjoy better vision. Another great member of our community!
Guernsey Area Chamber of Commerce “Legislative Luncheon”
Pictured from left to right: State Senator Brian Chavez (Chair Energy Committee), State Senator Al Landis (Vice Chair Energy), President Jennifer Vincent, U.S. Congressman Troy Balderson (Chair House Energy Action Team (HEAT), State Representative Don Jones (Chair Natural Resources Committee)
Guernsey Area Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual “Legislative Luncheon” at Senecaville Lake. We had the entire Federal and State elected team there!
Jennifer Vincent (President of the Chamber) does a superior job leading this effort! Our message is clear: Your elected representatives are unified in our focus on supporting economic development in SE Ohio. That means direct actions in growing the energy industry.
Caithness Energy Visit
Thank you to the kind folks at Caithness Energy for the super tour of the Guernsey Power Station in Byesville. The Guernsey Power Station is a 1,875 megawatt, natural gas fired energy generation facility that produces electricity roughly equivalent to serve the power needs of approximately 1.4 million homes.
We live in the heart of the state’s Utica and Marcellus shale gas development area and the demand for energy is increasing at unprecedented levels across the world. More power stations like this are certainly in our district’s future.
Veterans & Military Affairs Committee meeting at Wright Patterson AFB
The Ohio House Veterans and Military Affairs Committee met at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton to gain a better understanding of how Ohio can best support our military members (both active and retired) across the state. Ohio is home to over 600,000 veterans, including many of you! Thank you to all our veterans; very proud you call Ohio home.
Dr. DeWitt May Keeps ‘Em Smiling!
Dr. Dewitt May and Maddie Thew from the Ohio Dentist Association visited in April. Dr. May has been a Zanesville dentist for decades and has literally created smiles across the district. Ms. Thew is in Dental school and we discussed the need for more dental professionals in our area. Great opportunities for young people in both medical and dental fields in our area!
Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)
Commemoration
The Ohio DAR presented a plaque at the Zanesville Courthouse commemorating America’s 250th Birthday set for July 4, 2026. The DAR members are incredible patriots who can trace their lineages to Americans who participated in the American Revolutionary War. As a member of the Ohio 250 Commission that was organized to help Ohio properly celebrate the birthday, it’s motivating to see other great people just as excited. So many fun celebration ideas in work!
Visit to Perry Elementary School
Congratulations to Perry Elementary School (East Muskingum School District) for receiving Governor DeWine’s Science of Reading Award! The Governor’s Science of Reading Champions Award honors schools that are excelling with their implementation of the Science of Reading, embracing professional development for teachers, and raising literacy achievement among their students.
Governor and First Lady Fran DeWine presented the award and stayed to meet with the teachers and observe instruction.
Perry Elementary has been using curriculum aligned with the Science of Reading for several years.
As a result, student literacy outcomes have improved at least one grade level between the 2022-23 school year and the 2023-24 school year.
The Perry School is full of very kind, extremely effective teachers and administrators. We are very fortunate to have Perry School supporting our most valuable assets. Thank you to some true heroes!
Congratulations to The Maysville High School Panthers!
On May 7th we were honored to recognize Maysville High School Basketball on the Ohio House floor in Columbus for being the 2024-25 OHSAA Division IV State Champions. This was an extraordinary team effort and the first men's state title for Maysville in the 68 year history of the school!
Coach Dave Brown and his incredible team received a standing ovation from the Ohio State Legislature for their hard work, selflessness and positive example.
Congratulations champions! You honor and elevate our entire community.
GO PANTHERS!
