Here are a few updates regarding some of the bills my office is working on!
H.B. 144: Enact Keith's Law regarding the communication disability database – Our job as the state legislature is to create laws that better the citizens of Ohio. My joint sponsor, Rep. Gary Click and I believe that House Bill 144 will do just that. This bill is geared towards ensuring that our police, fire departments, and emergency medical services have as much information as possible when responding to situations. Individuals with a disability as outlined in this bill deserve our support and as a state, we are not doing enough to help them. Bill Status: Passed by the House
H.B. 11: Regards legislative rule approval and fiscal analyses of rules – The intent of this bill is to stop excessive government spending and to reel in a bloating administrative branch. If this bill were to pass, administrative rules that would cost the state more than one hundred thousand dollars would require that a member of the House or Senate introduces legislation authorizing the agency to adopt the proposed rule. Then that rule would need to be passed by the state legislature just like a bill. Bill Status: Awaiting passage from the Government Oversight Committee.
H.B. 22: Authorize homestead exemption for surviving military spouses – I, alongside my joint sponsor, Rep. David Thomas, and my fellow members of the Ohio House of Representatives, have the utmost respect for our service members, and I believe that we as a state should take care of them, and their families. Currently, the state provides homestead exemptions for: individuals over the age of 65, individuals who are permanently and totally disabled, and disabled veterans. This bill would extend that assistance to the spouses of fallen service members. Bill Status: Awaiting passage from the House Ways and Means Committee.
H.B. 176: Establish a universal regulatory sandbox program – House Bill 176 is a conservative, pro-growth reform that creates a Universal Regulatory Sandbox — a framework that allows innovators to test new ideas in a controlled environment, free from select regulatory hurdles, while still protecting consumers. Bill Status: Awaiting passage from the Government Oversight Committee.
H.B. 266: Increase the amount of the standard homestead exemption – Property tax relief is a top priority for me and many of my fellow colleagues in the Ohio House of Representatives. H.B. 266 would provide a $300-tax credit for the next five tax years to any homeowner who has resided in their house for at least one year. Bill Status: Awaiting passage from the Government Oversight Committee
