Representative Bird Testifies on House Bill 145
House Bill 145 works to increase instructional hours in schools and ensure the number of hours required are maximized to keep students in session each year.
"I recently gave testimony during the House Education Committee on H.B. 145, legislation to restore instructional hours in a school year that were lost in 2014. Studies show that more hours lead to increased learning," said Representative Bird
Ohio House Introduces Budget Plan
The Ohio House of Representatives unveiled Sub. House Bill 96 this week – the House’s version of the State Operating Budget. This forward-looking, fiscally responsible budget plan invests in Ohio families and the state’s future – supporting students and providing much-needed property tax relief for Ohioans.
Sub. House Bill 96 was accepted by the House Finance Committee and will be vetted through the committee process.
House Bill 62 - Legislation to Provide Relief to Local School Districts
Representative Bird recently introduced legislation with Representative Justin Pizzulli that provides relief to school districts, particularly in rural areas, that have faced increasing College Credit Plus (CCP) expenses since the pandemic.
The bill aims to accomplish the following:
- Align rates for online CCP classes with the second-tier rate for CCP classes taken at high schools. Online CCP courses are currently billed at the highest-tier rate per credit hour.
- Encourage textbook cost sharing between colleges and high schools and allow CCP students to use free, open-source materials.
- Promote local CCP enrollment by encouraging students to take CCP courses at their high schools, when available.
"Thank you to the Adams County Ohio Valley School District Superintendent, Dawn Wallace, for traveling to Columbus to testify as a proponent of H.B. 62, legislation that I'm working on with my joint sponsor Rep. Justin Pizzulli. This bill would bring much needed financial reform to the College Credit Plus program." -Representative Bird
