House Passes Market – Driven Energy Reform, Repeals H.B 6 Subsidies
I proudly voted in favor of H.B.15, a major energy reform that will expand power generation, lower costs for Ohio ratepayers, and ensure grid reliability.
Ohio is quickly becoming one of the most business-friendly states, and this legislation will unlock our energy potential while holding utilities accountable to consumers.
H.B.15 increases competition by allowing more companies to invest in Ohio’s energy market and eliminating utility-owned generation. It also requires utility companies to undergo a more thorough rate review process, ensuring fair pricing and transparency for consumers. Additionally, this bill stops electric companies from charging customers for assets they already paid for and refunds remaining Solar Generation Fund money back to ratepayers.
In a significant win for Ohio taxpayers, we also repealed H.B.6 subsidies that unfairly taxed every Ohio ratepayer to prop up failing energy companies.
With Ohio’s growing demand for electricity, this legislation lays the groundwork for a competitive, consumer-friendly energy market. H.B.15 now moves to the Senate for consideration, and I look forward to seeing it cross the finish line.
H.B. 105 Seeks to Regulate Third-Party Litigation Funding
As the sponsor of H.B.105, I along with my joint sponsor, Rep. Jim Thomas, Chair of the Judiciary Committee, continue working to bring transparency and accountability to third-party litigation funding (TPLF) in Ohio.
H.B.105 ensures that TPLF—where outside entities fund lawsuits in exchange for a share of the proceeds—operates with clear disclosure requirements and consumer protections. This practice has contributed to rising legal costs, hidden interests in settlements, and even foreign influence in Ohio’s courts. Our bill does not eliminate TPLF but aligns it with existing legal standards to promote fairness and reduce frivolous litigation.
The House Insurance Committee is actively deliberating with all stakeholders to address concerns while preserving the bill’s intent: protecting consumers, preventing undue foreign influence, and upholding judicial integrity. H.B.105 has strong support from business and consumer advocacy groups, including the NFIB, Ohio Chamber of Commerce & U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Ohio Business Roundtable, Ohio Farm Bureau, Ohio Manufacturers’ Association, Ohio Alliance for Civil Justice, Ohio Trucking Association, Ohio Insurance Institute, among many more. With strong backing and ongoing discussions, I remain committed to ensuring Ohio’s legal system is transparent, fair, and free from hidden financial interests. Stay tuned for updates as H.B.105 moves forward in the legislative process.
H.B.126 Advances Through House Judiciary Committee
As joint sponsors of H.B.126, Representative Adam Mathews and I recently had the opportunity to present testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, where the bill continues to move forward.
H.B.126 ensures that public nuisance lawsuits cannot be misused to target lawful industries simply because they are politically unpopular. Public nuisance law was originally intended to address issues like blocked roadways or threats to public health—not to regulate the design, sale, or distribution of legally manufactured products. Unfortunately, we’ve seen an increasing trend where industries like firearm manufacturers, energy companies, and even pharmaceutical firms are sued under public nuisance claims instead of being addressed through existing legal avenues like product liability or malpractice laws.
In fact, the Ohio Supreme Court recently reinforced this principle in Trumbull County v. Purdue Pharma, ruling that counties cannot use public nuisance claims against pharmaceutical chains and must instead follow Ohio’s Product Liability Act. H.B. 126 codifies this decision into law, ensuring that legal actions remain appropriately directed while still allowing justice for those harmed by defective products or professional malpractice.
As H.B.126 moves through the legislative process, I remain committed to protecting businesses from legal overreach while preserving the rights of Ohioans to seek justice through the proper legal channels. I will continue working with my colleagues to see this bill through the House Judiciary Committee and onto the House floor.
Stay tuned for further updates as we move closer to passing this important legislation.
Property Tax Reform Update – Ohio House Passes House Bill 28
The Ohio House continues to tackle property tax reform to provide relief and transparency for all taxpayers. I proudly supported House Bill 28, which eliminates replacement property tax levies that can mislead voters and lead to unintended tax increases. This bill ensures homeowners are protected while maintaining transparency in the tax system. As it moves to the Senate, I remain committed to fighting for fair and clear tax policies for Ohioans.
Senate Bill 1 Brings a “Students First” Agenda to Ohio Public Universities
The Ohio General Assembly continues to put students first by passing Senate Bill 1, a major reform to our higher education system. I proudly voted for this legislation, which eliminates burdensome DEI programs, protects free speech, strengthens faculty accountability, and ensures our universities align with Ohio’s workforce needs. This bill is a crucial step toward fostering academic excellence, transparency, and institutional stability. Governor DeWine signed Senate Bill 1 into law on March 28th.
