Legislation
House Bill 28 - Eliminate Replacement Property Tax Levies
In our ongoing efforts to promote fair and transparent taxation, the Ohio House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 28. This important piece of legislation seeks to eliminate replacement property tax levies, which often result in unexpected and burdensome tax increases for homeowners and businesses.
By prohibiting local governments from proposing these replacement levies starting with elections held after October 1, 2025, we aim to provide greater predictability in property taxes, ensuring that taxpayers aren’t blindsided by increases.
This bill preserves the ability for local governments to renew existing levies and propose new ones, but ensures that any increases are transparent and direct. As we continue to advocate for fiscal responsibility and fairness, House Bill 28 is an essential step toward a more equitable property tax system. The bill now moves to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
Roemer receives Children's Champion Award from Groundwork Ohio
I am honored to have received the Children’s Champion Award from Groundwork Ohio for my efforts advance policies supporting young children and families. This recognition highlights the advocacy for quality childcare that I have maintained throughout my career. I will continue working to ensure that these policies are prioritized. Investing in their education, health, the well-being is essential because they make up 100% of Ohio’s population in the future.
 House Resolution 65
I introduced this resolution to honor John Groce, the head coach of The University of Akron’s men’s basketball team. He was named 2025 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year. Under Coach Groce’s leadership, the team achieved a 17-1 regular conference record, marking just the second time a team in the MAC has reached such a milestone.
Additionally, his leadership helped guide the team to win the Mid-American Conference Championship, a historic accomplishment for the university. Recognizing his outstanding achievements not only celebrates success but also inspires others to excel in their fields. It’s always a pleasure to recognize excellence in our community.
House Bill 79 - Increase penalty for assault if the victim is a sports official
As part of my continued commitment to protecting the safety and dignity of individuals who contribute to the fabric of our communities, I introduced House Bill 79. This bill aims to increase penalties for assault when the victim is a sports official.
Under current law, assault against a sports official is treated as a misdemeanor; however, my proposed legislation would elevate the penalty to a fifth-degree felony. Additionally, offenders would face mandatory fines and community service. Sports officials play a crucial role in the integrity of our games, and we must ensure their protection against violence. This bill is awaiting further committee consideration.

15th Annual Summit County Farm Bureau Farmers’ Share Breakfast
I had a great time serving breakfast and supporting our local farmers. This event is an important opportunity to recognize all the hard work that farmers do for our great state; their contributions to our community and economy are indispensable. Agriculture remains a cornerstone of Ohio’s economy, and it’s essential that we continue supporting policies that benefit our farmers and their families.

This event is crucial for fostering dialogue between students and lawmakers about the future of higher education in Ohio. It’s important to listen to the voices of young people and provide them with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.

Recently, I had the opportunity to serve as a panelist on the Ohio REALTORS Townhall on housing. Our discussions focused on the state of Ohio’s housing market and future challenges. As a member of the Joint Medicaid Oversight Committee (JMOC), I remain committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen Ohio’s healthcare infrastructure and create good jobs.
